Avariel Idea(balenced?)

I'm not sure a Str malus is really a good idea. Flying creatures are very muscular, and the bigger they are, the truer it is. Flying requires strength, unless the avariels are stuffed with helium.

Due to hollow bones, I would however give them a harsher penalty to Con than normal elves. -4 Con.

Don't see much sound reasons for a +4 Dex. Keep it to simply +2.

For their fire vulnerability, I would rather have simply gave them a -5 (or something like that) penalty on saving throws against fire; but that's just me. I find adding (or substracting) damage from individual dices is a hassle, and is not consistant with the rules we already have.

The double prefered class is also inconsistant, but well, that's not too bad.

I have no problems with the other details.

Finally, there will be official WotC-made avariels in the FR sourcebook the Silver Marches, or so I've heard.

An Avians strength can be largely focused however into the wings and surrounding muscles.

Low strength works well to reflect lower carrying capacities and a lesser ability with the body's remaining muscles due to both bone mass and structural focus.

First, thank you all for replying :)

anyway the -2 str is like arcady mentioned(and is mentioned already next to the stat reading)

reducing their con further because of hollow bones would make little sense, as a: surviving at high altitudes would require a decent con b: and it doesn't make as much sense that they'd be weaker in constitution really to my mind

strength makes more sense for the hollow bones mean they've less body mass to throw around, and mose of their muscles are focused on what is needed for them to fly, if anything I'd put the
-4 in str, but then they'd most likely be nothing but casters, and while the -2's are bad, it won't necessarily prevent you from being a decent fighter

the reason for the increased damage for fire is because more because of their fear of it(i.e. they spend more 'hit points' to avoid it as much as they can)

The two favored classes chooses(they only get one) is more because of their flavor text from various sources than anything else

and yes I've heard rumors about them being in some suppliment in the future :D

I would simply eliminat that 'half shaken' rule under claustrophobia. I don't know if that it is really necessary. It would depend on how often you were going to be playing underground. If a lot, I would give the player the benefit of the doubt. If it would be rare to go underground, it's ok I guess.

I would say make the dex check to stop the falling simply a full round action with one check, rather than 2 in a round. Just smoother that way. Or word it differently, like getting a check for every so many feet they fall. Then just figure how many feet they would fall in a full round, and make it each check at half that. I just like that type of wording better.
