[B.A.D.D.] Dragon Spell List Feedback

Destruction is in (for cleric casters) and implosion is out.

On the subject of destruction - how do you think its focus would/should work, considering that dragons aren't really divine casters?

Interest question. :D

Considering the ego of dragons, they might well consider themselves the focus.

From where do they derive their divine power anyway?

Dragons don't seem like the kind of beings that readily give their alegience to anything or anyone just to gain a few measily spells. Perhaps at lower levels, but once they achieve the heights of Dragon-ness, would they worship anything but themselves? *shrug*

This is what I do for normal divine foci components, but what about destruction's 500 gp holy symbol? :)

I suppose the many large pieces of treasure in their hoard can count as the holy symbols of dragons. Perhaps having any good sized gem on hand from their hoard is enough. If away from the lair, they could regurgitate one (or more) from their gullet to accomodate the spell casting situation. Just a thought... :)

Actually, dragons cast spells from the Cleric main list as arcane spells. So even though they are replicating the effects, the source is not the same. Which begs the question, if a Great Wyrm casts Miracle from *WHOM* is he requesting intercession? Hmmm...

I'm sure they have plently of treasure, but what would the symbol *look* like? Surely they couldn't just use ingots. Would it be a miniature of the dragon itself, sculpted from pure silver? What else is possible?

I'm looking at this from more of a "flavor" than "rules" standpoint. (Heresy!)

I don't know that it would have to be more than a well-cut gen of unusually large size but here are a few sites with some "dragon" jewelry to get some more ideas...

I'm sure there are a lot more out there... :)

As holy symbols? :)

One of the interesting things is that the description specifies "silver". If the craftsmanship counted for none of the price, this holy symbol would have to weigh 100 pounds!

Good question.

Depending on the campaign, a dragon of great age and power could easily have personally met minor or major gods in their lifetime. A Miracle could be the a spell that lets the dragon contact the deity and call in "a favor".

How about the dragon gods ?

Possibly, dragons have a more personal relationship towards their deities since they are closer in power level to them. And the deities have much less followers. So dragons (some of them anyway) wouldn't need to be actual clerics to cast divine spells ?

I mean, if dragons worship themselves  , who worships the dragon gods ? (And I'm not talking about Ansalon here. :))

I like the idea, and certainly agree that they should (or at least some should worship the dragon deities. The fact remains, though, that they cast the spell as an *arcane* spell.

Should it still be based on a deity? I'm asking for advice here - I just don't know.
