[B.A.D.D.] Dragon Spell List Feedback

EOL

First Post
Since all dragons can cast spells as a sorcerer I thought I'd put together a "best choice" Dragon spell list with spells ranked in priority in each spell level so when you need to make a Dragon you look at the spell list truncate down to the level you need, switch a few spells for flavor and bang there you go a really nasty dragon spell selection. Hopefully this will be useful to B.A.D.D. members and possibly make it into CRGreatHouse's Dragon generator (which is where the idea started). Here's my first stab at the list let me know if you think there's a better spell or if the priority seems off.

0th- Detect Magic, Resistance, Detect Poison, Read Magic, Dancing Lights, Ghost Sound, Mage Hand, Open/Close, Mending
1st- Endure elements, mage armor, shield, true strike, charm person
2nd- Cat's Grace, Endurance, Fog Cloud, Blur, Bull's Str.
3rd- Haste, Dispel Magic, Displacement, Protection From Elements
4th- Dimension Door, Improved Invisibility, Confusion, Detect Scrying.
5th- Cloudkill, Dominate Person, Summon Monster V, Teleport
6th- Greater Dispelling, Anti-Magic Field, Programmed Image
7th- Spell Turning, Greater Scrying, Forcecage
8th- Mass Charm, Maze, Protection from Spells
9th- Time Stop, Dominate Monster, Mordenkainen's Disjunction

Any and all help in refining this list would be appreciated.

Don't foget that many dragons can learn cleric spells in their sorcerer spells. Some of the best ones will come from their list.

Won't obscuring mist be too small to hide in, at least for grown up dragons anyway.

Good point on the cleric spells, but I think I focus on arcane spells for the moment. As far as the Obscuring Mist, it's not for the dragon to hide in, the dragon would use it on the party to limit their vision, while he uses his blindsight to brutally slaughter characters on the periphery...

Great list. It's just what I was looking for.

Let's add 4. detect scrying and 9. time stop to the list to complete it, and see if there are any other suggestions.

I screwed up on level 4 so thanks for catching it. I didn't include a 3rd level 9 spell because I couldn't find any dragons who got above 19th level, but now that I think about time stop it may have to go to the front of the line. I'll make the edits.

All good dragons have access to cleric spells; I don't know about the evil ones but red dragons fit the bill. Heal is an all-round favorite.

"What do you mean we have to kill it again?" Anguished PC.

Blues do as well, according to the SRD. Here's the list of accessable domains by color:

Blue: Air, Evil, Law
Red: Chaos, Evil, Fire
Brass: Chaos, Knowledge
Bronze: Animal, Law, Water
Copper: Chaos, Earth, Trickery
Gold: Law, Luck, Good
Silver: Air, Good, Law, Sun

Of course, all these dragons can choose from any spell on the cleric list.
