Babes of Gencon 2003

Just my two cents, since no one's said this yet--

The problem isn't the photo album, or the people who took the pictures with good intentions, or the people who ogle the photo album pictures, or the people at the cons, or the women who deliberately dress in such a way to induce ogling, or the people who hire the booth babes. The problem is taking it out of that context and applying it to all women, all the time. And you have to admit, western culture certainly does still objectify women.

That being said, *I* can certainly appreciate a fine looking woman (not to mention a fine looking man), and have *no* problem with the photo albums. :D

LOL...love it:)

Read as: "...not me though, just all those other neanderthals that make up Western culture" :D

Okay, I have two imaginary cents...

Morrus is entirely correct. It's his site and he can do and/or enforce whatever he feels like. That being said...

Jesus people, project much? What, a woman who agrees of her own volition to wear an outfit that she doesn't find degrading enough not to take money to wear in public offends you? The only way that I can think of for that to offend someone is if you are uncomfortable seeing a woman in that outfit. As SKR said, there's enough porn on the net - and Booth Babes are pretty seriously far from porn.

And as for the term Booth Babes itself. The origin of the term itself is completely irrelavent. It's been a common and accepted term for a very long time. Changing the term is as absurd as changing any other well-known, accepted, and widely-used term. Every gamer I've ever known used the term with admiration and respect. A Booth Babe is a mini-celebrity, not a porn star, and I know at least one beautiful young lady who not only has agreed to be a booth babe, but is looking forward to it for (I imagine) just that reason. She will be admired and paid rapt attention to, and in the (hopefully) unlikely event that someone attempts to treat her disrespectfully, she simply doesn't have to put up with it.

I'm with Teflon Billy, it's all a bit more than a bit much reaction for what we've seen come before now.

Note to the sales teams: I may well enjoy looking at the booth babe you hire, but I won't buy your product because of it.

Unless their also offering sneak peeks, and erotic dances! THEN I'LL TAKE EM ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He, he, he!!!

re

I would bet money that women will complain more the day men don't take notice of them for their physical attractiveness than when men do. Women like to be noticed for being beautiful, and I don't see why taking some pictures is considered so taboo by some prudish folks.

Objectification? Someone kill me the day I don't notice a beautiful woman. I personally believe that men react to beautiful women from a genetic imperative rather than a trained response. Hell, I actually know I am reacting differently towards a beautiful woman, but I feel trapped in my own body like it isn't even a choice. I just can't help but treat them better they are so pretty. Its in our blood.

Yes I looked at the gallery and no I was not really offended by the material within. However I do not believe this is an appropriate forum for such content. Here there are certain guidelines of civility and decorum, not to marginalize anyone but to be inclusive. If I had a daughter I'd want her to be able to come to this forum and not feel as if only "beautiful" women who displayed themselves for ogling were worthy of attention. Some of the spokesmodels at GenCon last year were actually indoctrinated. The previous year one of the women involved with Dionin (I think it was Dionin) dressed up as a member of a feline race from their book. This involved a lot of orange and black body paint and very little costume. The point is she knew the products well and could talk about them. The better spokesmodels do know what they are selling and are part of the process. When we get to the point where we are posting pictures of people who are possibly not even part of the event then what we are really doing is using this forum to post "Women I find attractive that were near someplace I went." That's fine for your own site, but of what relevance is it to this community?

I like beautiful women, I like well made and interesting costuming and make-up. I also like having a forum where intelligent and mature discourse occurs on a wide variety of topics of specific interest to the gaming community. I don't necessarily need all three in the same place. I guess what I'm saying is, I like Martin Sheen, but that's because he's a good actor, I don't want to hear his political views and I certainly won't be influenced by them. If I want to look at pretty women, I'll do that somewhere appropriate, if I want to engage intelligent and interesting people in dialogue concerning gaming, I'll come to you nice folks.

PS We're in booth #434, I'll be the pirate in the chainmail thong with a vinyl eyepatch...
