Bard Archer

As far as I am aware you add the bonuses for the bow and arrow together, However it is solely the bonus on the arrow that is used when trying to overcome DR.

Yeah, if you cast GMW on your bow and arrows, and both get +3 enhancement bonus, now your attack is +6 and Damage is +6. Still, your arrows are just treated as +3 weapon for overcoming DR.

Although the sorcerer in your party may be casting GMW and Haste, your bard should still take those spells if he can. It's my opinion that certain spells are like disk space and money: You can't have too much.

Assuming all the other bases in your party are covered (you're playing a bard so they ought to be), an extra GMW or Haste now and again will only make the group's life much easier. If you have five party members, then you will need probably three to four castings of those (single target) spells per day depending on how powerful your magic weapons are and how many of your party fights with weapons. You'll need two (bow and arrows), the fighter will need one, and the cleric may need one too. Though the cleric can cast GMW too, freeing up cleric spells by having someone else do it is a good idea, especially when you need that extra Cure Critical Wounds to survive.

One of the big tempters for me with the Monte bard is the MEA invisibility note. Between that and Swift Song/Burst of Speed, things look pretty interesting. I'm hoping my GM will convert some more spells, though.

Unfortunatey in our group there's some degree of desire for niche protection-- it's easy to say you can never have too much Haste/GMW, but when people already have magic weapons AND you're talking about a limited set of spells (aka, sorcerors/bards)... it has always seemed better to me to space out what the spontaneous casters can do, rather than duplicating.

Plus, another concern of mine with the PHB bard is the very limited number of spells per day.

I'm working on a new character, an aasimar bard. I also want this character to be an archer. I'm trying to decide between the Monte bard and the PHB bard. Has this been discussed somewhere already, or does anybody have some thoughts on which of the two classes would lend itself better to being an archer, and why?

Personally, I think the standard bard is a FANTASTIC archer character. Even though you don't have many feats, all you need are Point Blank Shot, Precise Shot, and Rapid Shot. Greater Magic Weapon, Haste, Improved Invisibility, and Bardic Music make for a great combination. You make a great tactical center for your party because you can, eventually, Inspire Greatness to provide bonuses and dish out a lot of damage at range to cover your party members.
