Baric is CR 1?

I am planning to use the Baric from the Conversions on the Creature Catalogue web site. I am just wondering if CR 1 is too powerful for the monster. This is just my opinion, based on my looking over the abilities of the monster. Mind if I ask how it qualifies for CR 1 and if it has been playtested?

I'm a newbie DM and haven't really had much experiencing running monsters, adventures, etc., so take my opinion with a grain of salt. Great job on Creature Catalog. It's great seeing monsters from the old editions being updated.

many of the older conversions on our site were used as the basis for the Tome of Horrors book for Necromancer Games; the baric was one of them. are they CR 1 in that book also? i did not do the conversion myself, so i can't speak as to why it was rated the way it was.
