Batman Begins sequels to feature the Joker

The new Batman franchise (beginning with "Begins" :) ) is a complete restart. Disregard any previous movies.

I'd have disagreed prior to hearing about the sequels for Batman Begins, but now it sounds like you're correct. Which, of course, is what I was talking about before; this is somewhat odd because it disregards the Hollywood convention that movies with the same character must not disagree with each other (in terms of characters and plot).

Finally! I think that a classic superhero movie mistake is that they constantly kill the bad guys.

Joker... I guess it really depends on what the director wants. Funny-Joker or Scary Clown Joker. I hear that madness is quite difficult for an actor (though Brad Pitt did a surprisingly excellent performance in 12 Monkeys).

I always thought that Jim Carrey would have made a good Joker (if the director could keep him from acting stupid).

And I think that Clive Owen would make a great Two-Face; but if Dent has already been cast...
I'd disagree with this statement to a point. The main mistake comic book movies make is not sticking to the comic book. I hate when some director goes all willy nilly and wants to put his imprint on my favorite comic books.

In the Spiderman movies, it made since that the Green Goblin died because that is how it happened practically in the book. As a fanboy I was happy. NOw the joker dying in the first batman was ok considering i've read afew comics that made it look like the Joker was killed and it is very possible the joker could have survived batman 1.

I'd like to see the next batman movie do justice to Bane. Bane is my favorite batman villian and still the only person whom has truly taken out the batman both mentally and physically. I know the imposssiblity of doing teh whole knightfall storyline but doing portions of it would do wonders for batman. IT would introduce a villian whom the audience doesnt know much about (and idont think they'll rememember whatever crap that was in part 4) .

Dontadow has suffered an accident and won't be posting to this thread any longer. It might be best that the rest of you forget a certain sequel in the batman franchise or suffer the sam fate.

The use of Bane in that Batman movie was similar to the use of the Beholder in the Dungeons & Dragons movie. It totally missed the point of the character/creature being used.

I'd have to agree that Mark Hamill could be a great Joker. He's got the voice pegged, and under the makeup folks wouldn't be thinking "it's Luke Skywalker vs. Batman!" I'm not sure how good he would be in the actual acting, though, since I haven't seen him do anything in years.

Speaking of which, someone mentioned the old Flash TV series. That's the last thing I saw Hamill in: he played an insane villain who called himself "The Question" in at least one episode. Corny, but it worked.

Brad Pitt's another good choice... he was excellent in 12 Monkeys.

Jim Carrey... no. Something about his expressions just don't fit, in my mind. I can't explain it, but his facial expressions kill it more than anything else. Which is why I was unhappy with him as the Riddler, too. I prefer the sadistic, intelligent Riddler from the animated series to the goofy, over the top guy in spandex that they chose for the movie.

I loved the idea of Tommy Lee Jones as Two-Face... until I saw it. Again, they went with a goofy caricature instead of the tough, calculating madman from the animated series and comics. I'm not sure who I'd get for the role this time around.

Warner Brothers wants to redo the series. If the got Jim Carrey for Joker, most people will think they would be going camp again because he was in one of the earlier movies.

Mark Hamill played the classic Flash villain "The Trickster", aka James Jesse. Too histrionic, though.

Y'know, maybe the guy who played the Mouth of Sauron in the extended RotK could play the Joker. Now THAT is creepy!

It's funny, I just saw Batman on TV this morning and was thinking about who could play the Joker in a new movie. I thought that Jack Nicholson did a fine job (with the material he had to work with, at least), but he just didn't look the part -- the Joker's supposed to be well over six feet tall and built like a rail.

I liked Cesar Romero as the Joker. Weird thing to say, I know, since the '60s portrayal was waaaay different from the way he is now, but I think he captured the Clown Prince's unbridled mania pretty well. Makeup-covered moustache notwitstanding.

Mark Hamill will always be the voice of the Joker for me. Whenever I read a Batman comic, my mind's ear hears Hamill's voice coming out of the character's mouth. I would love it if he were to dub over the character's dialogue -- but I don't think that's gonna happen.

I think Adrien Brody would look good as the Joker, but I don't know if he could fly off the handle the way Mister J does on occasion. If it were the Dark Knight Returns version of the Joker, I would say Brody all the way -- I was pretty terrified by him in that story. But I don't think that the low-key manner he was presented was really typical of how he is in the mainstream comics. The thing about the Joker is that he can be pretty funny, in a "so freaky you need to laugh to keep from getting too disturbed" kinda way, and I don't think Brody's right for that.

As far as other Batman villains go... Jim Carrey could have been good as the Riddler had Batman Forever been a better movie. He can do creepy and keep it understated, but the director just didn't know how to handle him or the character.

One thing I would love to see is Robin Williams as Jervis Tetch, AKA the Mad Hatter. Only if he can do it really creepy-like, though, like in One Hour Photo.

Funny thing is Robin Williams was the first option to be the Riddler (the business-suit wearing one). Then came The Mask, and Carrey got the part...
