Battlemap Stain

Acetone would probably work too, except you need to take special precautions when disposing of it, and it could damage the mat.

I used acetone to clean marker off of a Crystal Caste battle map. It took the marker off, along with some of the hexes. I guess the key is to not scrub to vigorously when wiping the marker off.

Stear clear of any other solvents. Methelene chloride seemed like a good idea at the time, but that took off the remaining marker and all the printing on the map.

D'oh.

Well here are some partial results :

Murphy's oil soap definitely takes of some ink but not completely.

Dry Erase marker...well, does anyone have a suggestion for getting that out?

Still need to try whiskey and ethanol...kinda scared to try acetone.

When I used a dry erase marker on my board. I got it off fairly well with water and my fingernail. It's a lot of work, scraping away though. The grid lines weren't affected, surprisingly.

I work in a lab too, and trust me, the ethanol will work. Better if its high alcohol content, though...beer won't work I don't think.

Rubbing alcohol won't work, Phoenix?

I've had good luck using an abrasive cleanser with bleach (Softscrub, I think) to get out grease pencil. It caused no visible damage to the mat even with moderately vigorous scrubbing.

You can buy the markers at Office Depot or Office Max. They are tucked away with the overhead projectors, not with any other writing utensils.

A long soaking

I forgot to wash off my battlemap and it sat for about a full month one time with a mix of blue, green and black vis-a-vis wall and door markings. I tried to just wash it off and it didn't budge. One of the colors did come off with some effort (either blue or green, don't remember now). The black and one of the other colors was left.

I did something wierd, and wound up soaking it in my bathtub (just plain luke-warm water) to see if it would loosen the colors. It probably soaked for about 15 minutes, and by the time I got back to it, the entire map was beginning to get better. With a rag I was able to remove about 90% of the marks, but some were still hard to get off.

The downside of this was that the color from the ink got onto the backside of map while it was in the tub. After more attempts at soaking and drying, most of it has now come clean. My main problem now appears to be a few smal green marks on top of the division lines. Soaking hasn't helped those at all.

Hopefully, there is no long-term damage from such extended soakings. I've seen no problems yet. However, I'm now a lot more careful to always wash it after use.

I accidentally used a dry erase marker on my battlemat. I used the dry erase stuff to try and get it off, but it doesnt. My roommate used Vodka, and that did nto work either.

Does anyone know how to get this off? or is it permanent... but considering you could get perm marker off- i dont see why this should stain...
