Battlestar 2003

looking forward to it too ...

I liked the alien-ness of the cylons, the director said he wanted a new direction for the show ... having the cylons be created by humans or something, to be new and what not ...

well the theme has been done quite a bit: terminator, matrix, Space: above and beyond (the droid guys), a mention of in Alien 4, ... yada yada yada.

hopefully it'll have a new enough spin on the theme that I won't be able to point the plot out to quickly.

Was there ever a remake that was entirely redone to fit the new director's "vision" that didn't suck?

If we're talking about a movie interpretation: Batman (first 3 movies), Dune, Children of Dune, The Fugitive, The Saint, The Odd Couple. If you're talking about movies made from novels: The early James Bond movies, Bladerunner, Total Recall, Minority Report, The Hunt for Red October, Dune (again), Lord of the Rings (I'm just going to assume the 3rd one will be incredible like the first 2).

I think that you'll be disappointed if you're looking for a new spin on the old technology out of control theme. I agree that this has been done to death, but Battlestar Galactica isn't as much about the premise as it is about the heroic journey. If they destroy the heroic journey then the thing is going to be so much cable TV flotsam.

I'll watch it. I have no hate for it but I was a never big fan of the original Battlestar Galactica. I remember the Vipers where cool and the space scenes where the only thing I like. The only character I know is Starbuck and thats because he was Face on The A-Team.

As for re-makes. Why do re-makes have to be exactly like the original? I mean whats the point? Orginal Pysco Cool, shot for shot remake LAME. Do you also want to replay the same shot of the Viper destroying a Cyclon ship every single episode like the Orginal? Or how about Lassie and Timmy in it? God I so wanted them to both die in that fire on the Glactica.

Now exactly what role will the electronic dog take in this upcoming series?
Daggits! Their called daggits people! Geesh!

As cheesy as the original shoow was, I watched it faithfully with my dad. Don't much like the changes but then again, I hate change. I'll watch it with a pessimistic mind. "Tis what I am good at. :-)

Of course the thing could be presented as a musical and still come off better than Galactica 80.
You mean like this?

Sometimes, change is good (from 2nd edition AD&D to 3e).

Oftentimes, when you ignore continuity, and yet claim (i.e., advertised) the new series (like VOYAGER and ENTERPRISE) is a part of the continuing saga but it's not, then it can actually ruin what could have been a 10-plus year of fan devotion to a franchise.

Then there are those like me, who are just content with the franchise up to a point, and ignore the rest of the new series until they get back on-track. Those that will buy the earlier series on DVD and watch it, while ignoring the new shows that ignores continuity.

IOW, just drop a hundred for the DVD collection of BSG original series.

Trust me, you can never be more pessimistic than I am, a Trek fan who wants executive producers Brannon Braga and Rick Berman gone from the franchise.

You mean that wasn't you I saw doing that at the mall on Friday? Damn, I could have sworn it was. Especially after the guy reached the food court, took off the helmet, and stuck a container of fries on his head. :D
I'm afraid my Cylon fighten days are well behind me now ( I remember getting a cardboard viper cockpit kit off of a box of cereal at one time though, and I had fake Galactica insignias taped to a blue jean jacket). Besides the new show has taken all the fun out of running around yelling "Look at me I'm Starbuck" and it hasn't even been on yet.

Why am I not suprised by the musical........:D

For those who want to delve deep into Galactica: http://www.battlestargalactica.com/ It's Richard Hatch's site.

Early review from Ain't it Cool News (don't shoot the messenger, I'm just posting the link): http://www.aint-it-cool-news.com/display.cgi?id=16490

Considering that the new Starbuck is female, I'd pay money to see you do that. :p

So does anyone have links to pics of the new fighters and such? I don't have cable so I won't get the pleasure of (or maybe be spared from) seeing it.
