[BDV] Big News: Thrilling Passages and True20

If it worked okay for Star Wars and Star Trek, it will work okay for us too. I see no actual overlap between the products. Additionally, TP will be principally a print product, and if I'm not mistaken TT is exclusively pdf.

Marketing tip: When you're getting product confusion *already*, and your game isn't released yet, that's a problem.

I haven't seen any evidence of product confusion. I don't expect there to be anything but an insignificant measure of product confusion, if that. If you're worried to the contrary, feel free to change the name of your product line. Me, I'm sticking with Thrilling Passages.

As for Grim Tales, that would leave it just where it's always been ... a bang-up ruleset I'd be pleased to gain a favorable comparison to any day.

Excuse me? I'm the one whose actually already on the market, remember? Not hoping for a contest win, or whatever it is that you're doing.

There's evidence of product confusion in this thread. You're putting out a product which is also based on literary property, using a similar name. It's bound to cause problems.

EDIT: Just to clarify: I'm not worried that it will affect my sales, otherwise I'd be doing something a lot more rigorous than posting to a public forum about it. I'm just saying, if you're trying to launch a new line, you're shooting yourself in the foot by starting off with confusion already in place, which is easily avoided.

Your concern is noted. I respectfully disagree. I'm not changing the name (if that's indeed what you were meaning to suggest).

However, I feel obliged to correct your obfuscating remarks about the status of our product. To be clear, we're not "hoping for a contest win or whatever," a phrase intended to be derogatory. We've elected to postpone the release of our product to enter it in the setting search; if we are not selected, we are releasing the product with our original system, which has already received hours and hours of playtesting scrutiny.

In that case, while I appreciate you bringing the potential confusion to my attention, I'm not concerned about it.

Actually, if I was intending to be derogatory, there would be no mistaking it. :D

Seriously--I wasn't. Your statement about the True20 thing had me a bit confused as to the form that your product was going to take, and hence my phrasing.

My apologies for the misunderstanding.

Just an outsiders comment here...

When I first saw the Thrilling Passages thread - my fist thought was that it was Thilling Tales... maybe a print version of it.

Then I read your thread and saw it was different.

Your product sounds real neat Mr. Jacobsen, and I love True20 from what I have seen it. I am really interested in seeing your product.

GMSkarka may be on to something there...

Not trying to take sides. I would just love for both products to succeed.
