Below 0 HP... Cinematic version...

Here is an interesting version of the -10 rules:

Give each player a number of Lifepoints equal to his constitution plus his level.

If a character is reduced to 0 HP, then apply any extra damage to his Lifepoints. Also inflict the following on the character:

-1 to all die rolls (damage, to hit, initiative skill checks, saving throws, everything etc...) for every point of lifeblood damage taken.

Characters must make a fort save every round and every time he takes damage with a DC of 20 (don't forget the penalty). If he fails, then he immediately falls into shock. Consider this stunned for rules purposes. He must now make another fort save (DC 20 again, penalty too...) to see if he falls unconscious. He makes this second save immediately after failing the shock save, and every round thereafter.

At beginning of his turn during the round (regardless of if he can act or not...) he takes another Lifepoint of damage.

If he reaches 0 Lifepoints, then the character dies.

----------------------------------------------------------

Binding of wounds and healing spells stop the loss of Lifepoints.

Healing spells heal 1 Lifepoint per 5 hp of normal healing. This is always rounded down and can mean that a spell has no effect. If a healing spell has no effect, then the character would continue to loose Lifepoints.

A character who looses more than half of his Lifepoints has a battle scar. While our group has no rules for this, as it is played out, you may want to have a random chart for fairness. This would include permanent damage to an arm or leg, eye, face, or some other permanent disability. These can be healed by the standard spells: cure blindness, regenerate, etc...

A character left to his own devices would have to make a fort save (DC 10 with penalty) every day to heal 1 Lifepoint. A healer can use the healing skill to help this roll. If he fails, he heals no damage that day. If he fails by 10 or more, then he begins loosing Lifepoints as per the above dying rules but at the rate of one per minute, instead of one per round.

Of course, some high level spells such as Heal restore the characters total HP and Lifepoints instantly. This is fine at those character levels.

Any comments? This seems to work fine regardless of level, but I want others to give opinions about it...
