Benvolio(new look at Romeo and Juliet)?

First Post
I'm trying to rewrite Romeo and Juliet to start at the party scene, focus on Benvolio(Romeo's friend who survives) and include scenes after Romeo and Juliet kill themselves, showing how it went afterwards.

While listening to "Screen to Stereo" by NFG. That's right. The Rennaissance was never as bitchin as when Romeo kills Tybalt to a punked out version of the theme from "The Goonies".

Is it insanity, or would you actually be interested in seeing this monstrosity done on screen or stage(even if it is indy)?

Hmm...interesting idea.

I take it you're familiar with Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead? That'd be a good place to start, to see what's been done before and how you might change the form.

Somebody else referred me to the movie, too never seen it(or heard of it before now).

It actually started off with me thinking about how Benvolio would see the whole story; he just always struck me as cool, plus he's the only one of Romeo's friends who survives the whole play.

It's actually a play by Tom Stoppard, but the movie (starring Gary Oldman and Tim Roth) is also quite good.

It's Hamlet told from the point of view of the play's two most minor characters, and it's really quite a brilliant musing on duality of entertainment and reality. Plus, it made me laugh so hard I hurt my ribs.

If I were you, I'd give it a read (or a viewing) before starting your project. If you need any advice along the way, I'd be honored to help.

Very, very funny play. The Shenandoah Shakespeare Express, a quasi-Shakespearean theater company, occasionally puts it on; see it live if you can, and see the movie in any case!

I like the idea. For some reason, mixing Shakespeare with NFG appeals to me. (Try throwing in some Alkaline Trio too, just for good measure. And maybe a little Flogging Molly, if you get creative.)
As for suggestions, if you are going for a humorous approach, watch The Complete Abridged Shakespeare along with R&G are Dead.
