Legend
So theres been a lot of new material all come out in around a month or so. The leading contenders were probably Dragon Sorcerer and Light clerics. Sea Druid, Invokers and Warlocks also have some options.
In general these 4 spells are key imho
Chromatic Orb
Scorching Ray
Fireball/lightning Bolt.
Few, single, many targets essentially.
Fire has the best spell options, lightning probably best trade off considering resistance and immunity. Acid probably the best on a Sorcerer for and ball/bolts. Frost a bit mediocre and poison outright bad.
Acquiring hex via fae touched was also a good idea due to its interactions with scorching ray and cantrips eg eldritch blast. Conjure Minor Elemental super hex.
Here's some things I have spotted that have potential.
Lorwyn
Shadowmoor Hexer.
Hex as an origin feat. For classes that have scorching ray but no hex available. Not just for fiendish warlocks. Some classes like clerics and druids often want warcaster.
Heroes of Faerun
Spellfire Flare.
Very mediocre spell. 2d10 force damage extra blast per level upcast. However it interacts like scorching ray with hex and Conjure Minor Elementals. You can aquire it via magic initiate. Scorching ray replacement for classes lacking scorching ray? No monster in the MM has resistance or immunity to force damage. By itself meh. Upcast....
Eberron
Aberrant Dragonmark
Cantrip and a level 2 Sorcerer spells. Sorcerous burst, Chromatic Orb and Spellfire Spark hmmmnnn. Tempting as a Druid for example.
Mark of the Storm
It allows anyone access to Conjure Minor Elemental. Fiend Pact Warlocks, Light Clerics and Sorcerers take note.
Anything I missed? These are the Interesting things I've noticed.
