Best Fan Site

Hey all!

The submission period for the 2007 Gen Con EN World RPG Awards is now open, and while the judges are waiting for their product to arrive, I thought we (as in fandom in general), could give them something to do.

What fan sites should I harass into entering? Besides past years' applicants, is there anyone whose absence is striking? Does Gaming Report count (it's a not-for-profit site, right?) Pulp Gamer? Are there any Hot New Sites we should consider? Try and think out of the box here... for example, what about http://www.shamusyoung.com/twentysidedtale/?p=612 ? (And no, OotS can't enter because they publish now, BUT they can enter the board game under Regalia, and in theory they could probably enter under Free Product as well, I guess.)

BTW, it's my opinion that accepting money for advertising on a site does not disqualify it from the not-for-profit proviso for this category. What do you think?

If you run a fan site, you can download the entry form. Fill it out and fax it to me, or simply email me the contents along with the URL of the site!

The final deadline by which time the judges must have received all their material is June 1st, and there's always a stupid rush in late May/June, so lets give those judges something to do!

I would like to present the Dragonlance Nexus for the judges’ consideration for best fan site.

The Dragonlance Nexus has served the Dragonlance fan community since 2001 with nearly 4 million visitors and presenting the best that Dragonlance fandom has to offer. The Nexus includes fan d20 rules, art, interviews with authors and game designers, products, the Palanthas Herald newspaper, a Lexicon with over 3,000 entries, the continent of Adlatum, the upcoming Dragonlance Canticle podcast, and much more.

I have faxed over my entry, and will e-mail as well. I hope that the Dragonlance Nexus meets with the judges’ approval. Thank you for your time and consideration.

EDIT: I got a mailer daemon when e-mailing my info. Is there an alternate e-mail I can send to?

Sorry about that, I'd actually forgotten to create the "entries" email address.
:o
It's up and running (but I already got your fax, thank you!)

Cool deal. I re-sent the e-mail anyway, just in case you couldn't read my writing. ;)

Thanks for the opportunity.

Congratulations, you're the first 100% complete entry in the 2007 ENnies!

Those wishing to see who else is in can watch as the product and entry forms flow in right here

I'm not sure if there's a prize for first completed entry, but you get a gold star in my book. :)

I just spent a hefty chunk of last night looking over the first 2 sites linked in this thread, and if that is any indication of future links, I'll be keeping my eye on this thread. :)

Here's a question... is there only one "best fan site" selected, or are there categories? There are alot of very good individual sites out there, but even the best individual site could never compete against the sheer bulk of a "hub" site that may literally have hundreds of active contributors. You really can't compare across such disparate categories. Apples and... umm... poppy seeds.
Is this really an award for "best hub site"?

Loads of edition-independent Greyhawk goodness... maps, magic, mysteries, mechanics, and more! (And not a bad site for the work of just one guy)

I disagree that an "individual" site cannot compete with a "hub" site. A larger site may have more articles and contributors, but does it have consistently good quality overall? The ENnies don't disinguish between big or small products, they consider the overall quality as a whole. Judges have to compare vastly different products in other categories, I have every confidence in our duly-elected representatives and their ability to compare fruits.

That said, if we get masses of submissions from different types of sites (for example, if, in addition to 10 other fan sites we get 10 different podcasts), we might consider a split-off category.
