Megumin (Konosuba) isn't on here? casting one really big explosion once per day feels like the ultimate expression of being a sorcerer.

Ehh - that also works for regular wizards as well - "I only have one 5th level spell slot, so I'm going memorize a spell that can cause the biggest explosions" (alternatively, "I'm going to memorize Fireball in the highest spell slot that I can.")

For me, the distinction between wizard and sorcerer would come from whether or not the power was based on learning lore or innate (or, I suppose granted by a patron for warlock). If it seems like the arcane caster is more based on study or structured learning, I'd go with wizard.
