Isn't it a little early for this? Noone has even gotten a chance to use the most recent packet yet. And reading over for the first time versus mulling on it and rereading or actually using it are very different things. Obviously, you have a right to do what you want, but it seems like this just begs for knee-jerk reactions. That's just my opinion. All those polling have fun (no sarcasm intended).

The magic item packet was the third packet (or fourth, depending how you count), not the second one.

There have been five playtest packets released so far, although the August 17th one just added some additional content to the August 13th one:

  • 24 May 2012: The initial playtest packet, which included How to Play, DM Guidelines, Bestiary, some pregen characters and an updated version of the Caves of Chaos adventure (which was first publicly playtested at DDXP in January).
  • 13 August 2012: The second playtest packet, which included character creation rules. New files were Character Creation, Classes, Races, Specialities, Backgrounds, Spells and Equipment.
  • 17 August 2012: An update of the second playtest packet, which added the sorcerer and warlock classes, as well as the Reclaiming Blingdenstone adventure playtested at Gencon.
  • 8 October 2012: The third major playtest packet added a file on Magic Items, and updated the Bestiary and DM Guidelines.
  • 29 October 2012: The fourth major packet, released yesterday, supports classes up to level 10. It also includes a new adventure (Isle of Dread), and many new monsters in the Bestiary.
