Best Post-Gladiator Epic?

So, what do you really think did happened?

Don't know. Don't care. :)

No one really knows what happened. The story involves so many fantastic elements, you can't rely on that for a true account. After all, didn't the whole thing start because Paris was the judge in a goddess beauty contest (between Hera, Aphrodite, and Athena)?

I already explained my feeling on the Horse. It wasn't necessarily bad, just seemed out of place.

I know some people dislike it for trying to present a "real" version of the events without Gods and magic. Even though I enjoyed this approach to the film, removing the mythological aspects hurt it in some regards. For example, the Trojan Horse ends up seeming a bit silly.

I didn't think it was that bad. Besides, in a movie about the Trojan War, most people expect to see a wooden horse. I think they did a fairly good job in presenting the horse the way they did. Instead of the usual horse made out of fresh lumber with the trapdoor in the bottom and all, they basically cobble this one together out of ship scraps, and it comes apart when they're ready to invade the city.

I think it kind of helps to view Troy as the low-magic, grim and gritty version of the Trojan War. :p

For me the most epic movie in the last couple of years was Hero.

Troy just sucked in regards to using the proper armors and weapons.
Alexander was totally boring (yes, even the battle scenes "We can't hold out much longer!" "Come on, only one hour more!" "Ok!" Pffft.)
I actually liked Last Samurai, a nice fantasy movie.
I despised King Arthur. Makes me still shudder to think about it.

Havn't seen Alexander, after reading the reviews I decided, that the movie must not be worth my time. ;)

Havn't seen King Arthur, but I intend to do so eventually.

Troy was not bad, not great either, but I liked it well enough.

Kingdom of Heaven was quite good, a little better than Troy.

Last Samurai was a good movie, probably the best of the bunch.

Gladiator wasn't that great either. A decent movie, tho.

I saw The Last Samurai. I liked it. I like the road the hero played by Tom Cruise travels... redemption and all that.

I haven't seen Alexander yet. From what I read, I'm not missing anything, but I reserve my final judgement for when I will have acutally viewd the movie.

Kingdom of Heaven, waiting for a DVD release. I live in a french speaking town and I dislike dubbed American movies. That and going to the theater is becoming rediculously expensive :(

Troy I found amusing and had some nice choreography. That being said, some of the lines did not sit well with me. The "pep talk" given by Achilles before the landing fell totally flat. I don't know if it was because it was Brad Pitt saying the lines (unlikely) or if it were the lines themselves (most likely). Anyway, I liked it but I'm not going to buy the DVD.

I'll probably go against the common wisdom on this one, but I actually liked King Arthur alot... well alot more than Troy. It just sat well with me. Now Gladiator is still my favorite of the lot named here, but I but The Last Samurai and King Arthur equally in second place.
