Best sequel in movie history.

In another thread, I invited people to cast their votes for worst movie sequel of all time.

However, not all sequels suck, and in a few instances a sequel has even surpassed its predecessor. So, this thread is for people to list what they feel is the best movie sequel of all time. I'll start.

Best Movie Sequel Ever: Aliens.

Runner-ups: The Empire Strikes Back, Terminator 2: Judgement Day

Well, Dark Jezter, you got all of my well-known movies, but there's a good and obscure sequel to an equally obscure movie.

Gamera III. Second sequel to the 90's remake of Gamera, it's a giant rubber monster movie that's actually good as a movie.

Oh, and A Shot in the Dark. A sequel to The Pink Panther.

Demiurge out.

Edit: Damn. Forgot about the Evil Dead movies.

Right now I'd say The Two Towers ever so slightly edges out The Empire Strikes Back (original version) as the greatest sequel of all time, though Aliens is certainly a worthy consideration.

Have to go with Aliens but there are a number of othr movies that followed a movie as could be seen as a sequel, The Last Cursade while the third movie was really the sequel to Indy, based on the time line in the movie. :)

I'd say Star Trek 2 should be up there, both because it was much improved over the previous is so many ways, and due to the high number of great quotes.

Good Sequels: Godfather: Part 2, Terminator 2, Aliens

I would argue against Two Towers being included since it is just part of the whole trilogy.

se·quel ( P ) Pronunciation Key (skwl)
n.
1. Something that follows; a continuation.
2. A literary, dramatic, or cinematic work whose narrative continues that of a preexisting work.

The Two Towers certainly qualifies as a continuation of the work begun with Fellowship of the Ring. And its also the greatest sequel of all time.

Can't argue with any of the choices making the list so far, but I'll add Predator 2 into the mix as a possible...
