Push it in all the way, otherwise it won't make good (or any) contact. The 'male' plugs are built with a little piece of plastic that makes it pretty obvious when it's all the way in; if it feels like you'd need a hammer to make it go any further, it's just right. If it feels like it could go in without the help of a blunt implement, it's not in far enough.

This would be the perfect form factor for the Time Capsule announced yesterday by Apple (for those who don't know, it's a WiFi base station combined with a hard drive).

I wonder if it would be possible for the hub manufacturer to easily repurpose the cases for other uses...

I went as far as it could go without actually tearing the port card off of the slot.
