Make your funeral arrangements in advance.
You'll have trouble even seeing the fiend, since it has
improved invisibility at will. It'll probably fly in the air above you, blasting you with
fireball and its once-daily
meteor swarm.
If you have magic that lets you spot it, much less fly up to engage it, you won't for long. Pit fiends have
dispel magic at will.
Every time you do manage to hit the fiend in melee, you must make a Fortitude save or take 1d6 points of Strength damage, thanks to its
unholy aura.
Since you're a fighter type, you probably have a relatively low Will save, so be prepared to get hit with lots of
suggestion and
hold person.
Oh, and if you're fighting anywhere outside your home plane, you'd better be of evil alignment. Otherwise, it can use
blasphemy to banish you, with no save.
Have your friends bet all their wealth on the fiend. At least someone will make a profit off the deal.
