Sprout foregoes the use of his claws and instead whips the statue with his thick tail. The already damaged statue cracks and then shatters. The basilisk then fades from existence again as Toeto dismisses him, his immediate target destroyed. All that remains is the avatar...

Toeto moves beside the tomb with Yishim and begins studying the engravings, although she has no idea where to begin in interfering with the ritual.

[sblock=Toeto stats / actions]Actions
Standard: Protecting Strike vs Left Statue crits Will 26 for 13+5 (crit) damage and Kaz gets 3 THP. Just enough to kill the statue I think. Damage doesn't include any DR since it should cancel out with the vulnerability.

Move: Toeto walks to G10.

Minor: dismiss Sprout.

Any ally adjacent to Toeto's spirit companion regains +3 additional hit points when he or she uses second wind or when Toeto uses a healing power on him or her.
Boon: When Toeto summons Sprout, enemies adjacent to her take 1 radiant damage and allies adjacent to Sprout gain 1 THP.

[sblock=Spirit Companion notes]The spirit companion is treated as a conjuration with some exceptions.
  • It occupies 1 square like an ally does.
  • It is only affected by melee or ranged attacks (not close/area attacks or zones).
  • It is dispersed if it takes 12 or more damage from a single blow, and Toeto takes 7 damage. It is otherwise unaffected by attacks. It uses Toeto's defenses.
  • It cannot be flanked and it does not grant flanking.
  • The companion can move 5 squares whenever Toeto takes a move action. It is not affected by difficult terrain.

The Dark Temple, Round 6

"Good to be back, son," Cale says, grinning with bloody teeth to Fredrock as he fires an arrow at the statue.

The crystal shatters at the same time the other Statue explodes, leaving the Avatar reeling with the black power of the other god(s?) that pour into her as another piece of her raven shield crumbles.

At the same time, energy flares from the altar to the tombs and they begin to glow with a dark nimbus of energy, but at least the Avatar seems to no longer be focusing it...

Meanwhile, Livia comes to, blinking and staring out at the battle in a daze. A slow, tortured grin comes across her face as her eyes focus on the group. "Glad you finally made it. Told you we'd save some for you."

GM: I'm assuming Kaz's +11 damage included the vulnerable 3 from Cale(which should have been vulnerable 5). I added 2 to the damage, correct me if that's wrong.

I'm going to rule that effects take place after damage, so Fredrock did take 2 instead of 1 damage last round. Eithal's THP were gained on the hit line though, so I guess that activate before the crystal's response...

For more fun timing shenanigans, Scarm's blast killed Livia AND triggered Protect Me. The Rerise is a free action, so I guess that happens first, then Protect Me triggers...

You can control Livia now as well.

Note that the ritual is operating slightly differently now: I had it wrong before - it should have been a minor action. Other changes are a result of the ritual progressing...

Yishim can take an extra standard action this round.

Final note: I've been looking forward to this encounter since I started the adventure. :D

[sblock=Ritual, UPDATED]The ritual can be counterspelled and delayed 1 round with a Minor Action DC 20 Arcana or Religion check(max one check per round per PC) while adjacent to the altar or one of the tombs. In place of a normal roll, a PC may make roll Aid Another.

If a PC rolls 15 or less on their counterspell checks(even if Aid Another), they take 1d10 necrotic damage.

The ritual is to awaken the Hungerer Kings. It will take 2 more rounds to complete but if two more counterspell checks hit DC 25 or higher ritual will be disrupted entirely.[/sblock]

Yishim sees his allies make short work of the statue and last crystal. My place is here, where my study and knowledge can most help our cause.

He focuses on dispelling the ritual. As he battles the arcane powers swirling around the tombs and altar, he finally succeeds in beating the energy back though it struggles to return.

Seeing the Avatar unable to act, and Livia recovering, Yishim decides it's time to unleash the golden goddess's power. He races back to near Livia, tossing the Lessor Orb at the Avatar while swapping his own for the Orb of great golden power.

OOC: unfortunately, "(max one check per round per PC)" for the counterspells...

Fredrock smiles when he hears Livia speak, Welcome back my friend, glad you left some for us--but don't go doing anything like that again will you? I mean, go ahead and finish them off next time... Fredrock jokes as he moves towards the platform, making sure to keep his shield between him and the Avatar. Cale, this Avatar has been tough to hurt, mind pointing out some weaknesses on him for us?

Sprout rematerializes in the center of the battlefield, directly above the Avatar. He tail lashes her while she is still stunned and scores a weak hit.

Toeto finally notices that the other two heroes have been miraculously resurrected. Astonished, she says to Livia, "Y-you're alive! Please, take care to stay that way."
