BIG DAMN HEROES - a d20 Firefly Campaign [IC]

Win takes quick stock of the newcomer with an appraising glance, and then offers a slight smile back. Deciding he likes this new stranger, but keeping his hand on his sidearm, Win replies. "Real coffee, eh? I've not 'ad a spot o' the real thing fer weeks, now. And that simulated gos se ain't worth a pint o' piss!"

OOC: Gos Se = Crap
After pouring a drink for Kai and Win, Bastian proceeds to pour himself a shot of the thick brew, and begins drinking it with relish "Nice to meet you two, the names Bastian by the way... So what exactly is going on here? other than the Chief Engineer Beale looting the ship for spare parts that is"

While Bastian is talking to the newcomers Rover is begins to sniff enquiringly at the two men.

"Slainte," says Win, toasting the man who was kind enough to offer him the coffee. Taking a sip of the strong brew, he listens as Bastion introduces himself. Holding his hand out in greeting, he returns the introduction. "I'm Patrick Winslow, I am, but everyone jus' calls me "Win." It is easy to tell that Win must hail from Dyton Colony, as his thick accent is immediately noticeable.

Turning to Kai, Win continues. "An' it sounds like we migh' 'ave somethin' of an employee problem..."

"What exactly are you lot up to?" he asks.

"Actually, Beale, I was about to ask you the same question. Cash and Jon here seem pretty sure that you are stipping the ship of parts. Now that would be a pretty low down thing to do, stealing from your own crewmembers. You wouldn't be doing anything like that would you?"

[sblock=ooc]Ah, Beale, Meade. I read the ooc post, but got these two mixed up.[/sblock]

"Gorramit, girl, we ain't no damn crew no more. You musta figured the cap'n ain't commin' back, so that means its every man for hisself. And, ahhh... herself. Anyhow, none o' this stuff belongs to any o' you. It belongs to Meade, and he's gone. I say we load up as much as we can carry and make ourselves scarce before the Dockmaster gets fed up and has this gorram hulk carted off the tarmac."

Helsinki considers Beale for a moment.

"If you want out Beale, then go. Ain't none of us got a mind to stop you. You might be right about Meade; he might have done a bunk. But don't mean you got to follow his rotten example."

"Alright, that's it. I'm through talkin'." Beale raises a meaty and heavily scarred fist. "You all got three seconds to stand aside before I start knockin' your heads together." He drops the duffel onto the ground.

"One."

Helsinki shrugs.

"OK Beale. If that's the way you want it. Until our paths cross again then."

Helsinki turns and heads back towards her cabin. She takes a couple of steps then turns back for a moment.

"You'd better hope that you see me before I see you."

With that she strides back to her cabin.

[sblock=Watus]Once inside and out of sight, Helsinki grabs her holster and harness from its customary position beside her matress. She slings the holster around her shoulders and checks that the weapon safety is off.

"Ready or not, I'm coming," she whispers, and strides back out. As soon as she has a clear shot a Beale, she takes it. Preferably not a killing shot, but she's not fussy.

ooc: Watus, I'll leave you to hand the timing of the events above.[/sblock]

Cash looks disconcerted when Helsinki walks away. Still, he reaches for his rifle, holding in so the butt-end is set for clubbing should close combat break out. Cash stands to the side, silent, simply giving Beale an angry look.

"You heard her. Walk now, leavin' whatever you have on that mule downstairs behind, and this won't come to blows."

Jon watches Helsinki leave without saying a word. He calmly turns back to Beale.

"Listen, I understand your position. Seriously, I get it. The thing is...you take those parts, this boat becomes a grounded piece of gos se. If the captain were to abandon us, you think he'd leave the boat too. He probably sold it, for flight or for scrap to someone else. If that person comes by and finds a grounded bird, you don't think they'll come looking? If you want to leave, be my guest. But if you leave us without a means to do our jobs, that's going to be a problem."

Jon leans back against the wall, waiting.

Scowling, Beale snatches his duffel up off the floor and walks swiftly toward Cash and Baxter.

"Get out o' my gorram way," he snarls. "I've had enough o' the school marm act."

OOC: There may be some confusion about the location of the mule. If you look at the map of the middeck, the crew berths open out directly onto a catwalk. Over the railing of that catwalk (namely, the purple area) is a 40' drop to the floor of the cargo bay. The hover mule is actually docked in its armature off of that catwalk - so it too is around 40' above the floor of the cargo bay. In other words, Cash and Baxter are standing directly between Beale and his haul. A situation which he is apparently keen to rectify.

If anyone chooses to initiate combat at this point, you can go ahead and take a free partial action. Then please roll initiative.
