I am not sure the value of this tactic either. If the fighter has you marked, he will simply hit you and stop you from shifting.

Combat challenge does not stop shifts. But, yes, the example would be better for _not_ a fighter

The Fighter can hit you for shifting, but he will not be able to stop you from shifting.

Crap, you're right. Thanks for letting me know both of you. I had been running my npcs, in the game I DM, assuming fighters could stop them from shifting. Goes to show you what happens when you ass-ume.
