Blink and Blur

Say that you have blink going and are attacking someone. You have a 20% miss chance.

They have a blur going, giving you a 20% misschance.

What exactly happens?

20% total?
2 different 20% checks?
40%?
50%? (blink goes from 50% to 20% after all ;) )

Something else?

Since both are coming from different sources (the blink gives you a 20% miss chance because you're moving in and out of the material plane and the Blur gives concealment) I'd say it's 20% twice, with blindfight only affecting the second roll.

Really, I like pretty much all of the options that are at least somewhat additive.

Although the funniest one is 50%, reinstituting the misschance for blink.. so that both sides are even ;)
 

Not so sure right now, but I'd go with the simple 3.5 interpretation:
"If it's more than 20%, ask your DM."

And if the DM is math-obsessive, he'll go with 36%.
 

I'd have my players roll twice. What's really funny is when you're attacking an invisible, incorporeal, blinking, foe while you yourself are also blinking and don't have a Ghost Touch weapon. 3 rolls for a 50% miss chance, a one for a 20% miss chance. Although in that case we may go ahead and just simplify it down to one roll with a 90% miss chance (1 - (.5 * .5 * .5 * .8)). :)
 

I would reduce the miss chance from blinking to 20% on a creature that was already invisible or other wise had total concealment since concealment conditions do not stack.
 

Blink is missing because the foe isn't there, invisibility is missing because the foe can't be seen, and incorporeal is missing because the foe isn't completely solid, even when he is there. They should (IMO) all stack. Of course, its likely such a rare occurrence that it probably won't matter all that much. Although the situation is currently happening in a match I'm in over at Exodus, except that there is no miss chance because of the attacker's blink. So all we have over there is 3 50% miss chances (except that I assume my foe's weapon is probably ghost touch, so its only 2 50% miss chances).
 

At least part of the miss chance is concealment since "if an attack is capable of striking ethereal creatures, the miss chance is only 20% (for concealment)". I would assume that if you are already appling a 50% miss chance for the creature being invisible (having total concealment) that would negate the concealment portion of Blink and and leave the 20% miss chance as if the attacker could see invisible creatures since the attacker has already been penalized for not being able to see invisible creatures via invisibility's miss chance.

As a side question, what is capable of striking a ethereal creature in 3rd Ed? I know Ghost Touch, and force based weapons and magic can. However, for the description of blink and ethereal jaunt, it says an ethereal creature is incorporeal, which means you can hit it with a +1 or better weapon, which seems a little to easy to me. How do you play it?
