Blood and Fists news

Do you have an ETA for B&FII or the revised original?

The revised original is done, and only needs a break in the production schedule to see the light of day. It will probably show up after the Excalibur Campaign Guide and the Darwin's World Lost Paradise supplements. Off the top of my head I'd say less than a month.

On BNF II, I just started writing it, however, it's going really quickly right now. That's really all the detail I can give for both books. RPGO is a very very small house, and a lot of the work that takes place after my manuscripts are done (editing, art, layout) is only done by a very small group of people... so projects have to get in line and wait for the attention of that select group.

We could go faster if we expanded, but have decided against that. Bigger is not always better.

If you got a .pdf of Blood and Fists now would it include your updates/changes? Or should I just wait for the hardcopy?

Thanks,

Tellerve

p.s. Yes, I still haven't gotten it yet ;p But I'm very much living the struggling/starving artist thing in NYC so money is tight.

If you get the PDF edition before the updates are posted, you will be able to download the updated version for free when it is.

If you get the print edition at any time before or after the update, you can send Chris an email and he will hook you up with a copy of the updated PDF.

Thanks for your interest in the product :)

Ugh, I feel like an idiot, that's exactly what people asked earlier. Umm, I'm going to blame that on...lessee here, ahh global warming, lack of enough restful sleep, and some bad tea...yeah!

*ahem* move along...please, just move along

No problemo. I'm here to help. :)

Distracts me when I am researching Kenpo, Buddism, and other subjects.

Which I am, and I'm sure many others are, quite thankful for. You've always been pretty good about feedback and answering the numerous questions from the variety of products that you've authored, which we appreciate.

I, too, have noticed that your work continues to improve with each product, and your willingness to answer questions and be geniably accessible on the forums to folks using your stuff only makes 'em that much a better value for the buck.

On the styles, everything on your list is on mine except Professional Wrestling. I think if professional wrestling were "real" I would run it as School of Hard Knocks+ Improvised Weapon proficiency. As it is I would run it as Perform (stunt fighting).
Which is, ironically, exactly how I set up a character for our d20 Modern "Medallions" game... he's a shade-tree mechanic/junk dealer who is secretly a masked amateur professional wrestler on the side. I can't wait until I get to spring him on the group.

I look forward to BnF II, and I thought the TGM inclusion of some of your feats was a nice nod to your work from an experienced group.

Now, all the nice stuff aside, when am I gonna get my Gadgets for Blood and Vigilance? :)

In most cases I answer out of sheer embarrasment that all those mistakes weren't fixed or issues clarified before the product went gold :)

I also think some B.B.Brawler would aid in making the a pro wrestler.

The only thing cooler than them using the feats, was the way they used them, and the way they asked. They let me know beforehand (always appreciated), and gave them special notice when using them. For some guys who have definitely provided ME with plenty of open content (known as the MSRD) that was really cool, especially given how tight a design I think Modern is.

This is all on me, with a heavy dose of reality mixed (as I often say, Time and Money are not just Floyd songs).

It might be awhile unfortunately. I have to put things in a queue, and with the D&D books (the Legends series I just launched), the Modern books (which includes BNV), and another major launch this year I can't go into details on yet (something way different from anything I've done before), things are getting crowded.

So modern support, for the time being, might be more BNF and BNG stuff, because I really think they need more TLC than BNV, which I think stands pretty well alone. So, it might be in the second half of 2004 (with apologies).

Trust me, I'm in the world of mission-critical software development. I know your pain.

Already planned for his future. (Yes, I'm one of those geeks who, when told to make a character at 'x' level, usually go ahead and work out his planned advancement until level x+6 or so. Just in case.). I had considered doing MPC's Enforcer, but B.B.Brawler gives a lot of the same with access to what he wants most... wrastlin' moves! (note: spelt on purpose with an 'a', because I am from the South :) )

Yes, they do seem to be a good bunch of guys, and I personally like their work and community participation more after them having left WotC.

Oh, I understand completely. My Grampa used to have a saying when the subject of asking for something came up as kids: "Don't never be afraid to shake the tree, boy, cuz you just dont know when somethin' might fall out". :)

I've worked out a pretty simple system for supers gadgets using the Disadvantages system to award DSR's for gadgets that amplify or grant 'powers', with increasingly powerful gadgets usually having increasingly strange or devastating critical failures, so I'm pretty much set. Such as a jetpack that provides Flight at 4 PP, but requires pretty stiff Pilot and Balance checks, and has an interesting table of effects when you critically fail on a check/save using it. So potential rocketeers can actually bury themselves head-first into the ground if they so desire :)

The fun part was creating gadget 'additions' onto characters with Cybernetic origins; there's just so much room and inspiration to go with there.

That was the original plan, to handle them as powers. That book would be fairly easy to write. However, late in the design process it was suggested we make a non-Vigilance gadget book (though it would tie it by allowing super science) that didnt use the powers system as a base.

I said "sure!" without ever considering what a mammoth project that book would be done right.

Where I messed up however, was ANNOUNCING the book lol.

I finally got my copy of Blood and Fist

Charles,
I *finally* got my copy of Blood and Fist yesterday while at a local convention. I am very discriminating in my d20 purchases. I own less than ten d20 products of which only four are from WOTC (three of these products are the core DND books and the other was a gift) and consider B&F to be a welcome addition to my collection. While I will probably pick up Martial Arts Mayhem for a few of its feats (e.g. their stunning fist revision is nearly identical to my own house ruled version), I am glad that I held off on buying MAM from my friend's store. I much prefer B&F's approach to Martial Arts for d20.

Hopefully, I will have more feedback after I have a chance to look at the book more closely with particular emphasis on certain styles. Tonight, I might even write up some styles such as Hwa Rang Do and Kuk Sul Won if I don't read through the Modern SRD and start replacing DND feats and many of my own MA house rules with feats from the SRD and B&F. :)
