What is the deal with the Sai?

Charles,

In the d20 SRD (and the PHB) the Sai has a +4 disarm bonus - yet in Blood & Fists it only receives a +2 disarm bonus?

BTW: Martial Arts Mayhem also has the same +2 disarm bonus?

Thanks - and looking forward to part 2!

Well- there is no Sai in the 3.0 PHB or SRD, nor is there one in d20 Modern. The 3.5 SRD, which has the sai with the stats you mention, was not written when I did Blood and Fists.

So since I can't see the future I made up stats of my own :)

Btw- Im not being snippy when I say that- you seemed confused as to why I did not defer to the stats in the SRD.

I probably *would* have (although +4 seems really high to me), but just pointing out that no such stats were available in an open source (there were stats in Oriental Adventures I would assume- which I didnt bother to look at since I couldnt legally use them anyway).

Chuck,

Frankly I was a bit confused as why you did not refer to the stats in the SRD - I had not looked at the 3.0 SRD before posting my question. Makes sense based on the release date of B&F.

Why would you say +4 seems high - you need to take an exotic weapon feat to use it without a -4 penalty?

BTW: Snippiness or inferred snippiness is forgiven...

It seems high to me because of the simlicity of the weapon- if a Sai, with one little bend above the hilt, provides a +4, what would a chinese Hook Sword, which has a very large sickle like projection right below the point grant for disarm attempts?

+6? +8?

So +4 seems a little high to me.

Also- what you say makes sense about needing a feat to learn that one weapon, which I always thought was WAY too much, which is why BNF allows you to learn a multitude of weapons for that one feat.

Chuck

Regarding the chinese hook swords, I would say they only get a +4, like a sai. However, the hook sword is a medium weapon, versus the small of a sai. (Okay, that's one handed and light, in 3.5 terms :p )
