Blood and Vigilance tweak: suggestions?

Not trying to tell you how to do your job, Chuck, but my first thoughts regarding this (especially the Bold/Underline text) is to always require the spending of an Action Point. Just a thought though, and not necessarily a thought in the right direction.

I disagree... the way we did this was to have the Nullification power, for example, do "damage" similar to how other damaging powers did, I believe it was 1d4 per 4pp. This damage was applied to the PP that the victim had in a particular power, and returned at a rate of 1 per round (will save applies). You chose the power affected at random unless you had the ability (cant remember the power) to "read" the power signatures, and then you had to have enough of that power to be able to see that a super had a particular power before you could target it specifically.

Basically, if you made Nullification your Super's schtick, it took it and a couple other powers with significatn investment and pretty much all your feats and stunts to be *really* devastating, but that was pretty much all you were able to do because of the investment required. It's nice to be able to cripple Captain Jetman's flight power with a nod, but when he then hits you in the chest with a burst from his Thompson on the way down, it tends to take some of the fun out of it :)

I don't think any of the PC's ever chose it besides one, and I used it for mook Supers several times; I had it put into a Gadget which they had fun with, but mostly just using it on each other for roleplaying fun. It only got nasty at high levels, and then only when someone would get their flight, absorption, etc power turned off when they were attempting to do something *really* stupid (gotta love a readied action used wisely on a PC...). Plus, every time my PC's even sniffed a hint of a Nullifying Mook, they would gang up and monkey-pile/pound the crap out of him really quick ("I dont care if the bus full of orphans and nuns is about to go over the cliff, *that* guy just did 4 damage to my Energy Projection!!!!").

Some clarifications on a few things would be great. Throughout the powers section, you make reference to things like "for every talent spent on this power" - what exactly does that mean? Did you mean to say "for every STUNT?"

Also, under the Control Light power, the last item is listed as "Resist Light", but it doesn't have the normal range, duration, etc. of a typical stunt. I assumed it should be just like Resist Fire and Resist Cold, but it should probably be fixed in the tweaked version.

Other than that, I'd personally like to see some example Power Limitations, to assist GM's with setting DSR values. And of course if you could add some more General Power Feats, and any other additions you have room for and feel would be useful.

I'm sure the finished product will meet the high standards I've come to associate with RPGO's and your material.

Excellent catches. Thank you.

VIGILANCE Baby!

I would have to agree that it would be very cool to throw in some more examples of power stunts. While most people who play RPG's will have probably read a comic or two that doesn't necessarily mean that they will have all that they need in their head to create the type of character that will thrill and amaze.

One of the things I really wouldn't change would be the campaign models in the back. They go a long way to showing you what you can do with B&V (and they were fun to read too).

This is one of my favorite d20 tools and it is nice to see that it is getting some more attention. I also love the Dispatch articles for B&V. Will there be more dispatch articles on the way?

Regards,
Walt :]

Given that I just got done writing a little book that will be a Dispatch release (an adaptation of the Vossberg book to a supers prison) I think it's safe to say yes :)

Blood and Vigilance has actually gotten fairly good support from the Dispatch from us. Unfortunately that's the only support it's gotten, but we're batting some ideas around for a supplement.

Had I only known! I just ran an one-shot Vossburg Supers on Sunday....I had a freak accident affect some of the inmates and guards....

It turned out interesting. Quite interesting.

Nice to hear. Keep us in the know on that, I for one would like to see more.

Well here's what I've done/am doing:

1. Tweaked B&Vigilance up to version 1.1 which redoes the Advanced Training origin and adds some powers and power feats (power mimic, power nullification, power theft, a wall crawling power feat, a unique item power in keeping with B&Circuits).

2. A B&V version of the old Vossberg prison book, redon as a supervillain prison/NPC enemies book/campaign model.

3. The long promised B&V magic book, completing the "trilogy" with a skills and powers magic system adapted from my Legends of Sorcery book which has been well received (I think Crothian gave it 5 stars before the crash).

This baby will have new origins, powers, feats, an AdC or two and some mystical campaign models along the lines of those in the core.

I think after these three B&V projects in a row (though all are on the smallish side) the boss will flog me till I hit something else for awhile, but these should keep the fires stoked for a bit.
