Good old DVD is good enough for now.

After the fallout of this and whatever new format TV's go with that's inepxensive enough for the common man, I'll be there.

Another vote for "The one that wins the war." Personally, I'm worried about the HDMI requirments for copy-protected HD discs - my HD TV doesn't have that connection, and I'm not about to buy another big screen TV again so soon.

Anyway, for my part I'm going to sit on the sidelines until the format war is over. Considering how few DVDs I watch and the fact that I don't have a HDTV, I'm in no hurry to get a Hi-Def player.

glass.

Given that I don't have an HD television, it is a moot point. I'll worry about it only after I decide it is time to buy a new TV. Hopefully, that'll be after this nonsense is done.

Blu-Ray for me.

Any format that would allow entire seasons on one disc is a winner for me. If I could buy an entire anime series on a single disc, well, that would make me very happy. HD isn't big enough to do this kind of thing.

DVDs are just too small nowadays as a storage medium. 4 gigs is too easy to fill up (the hundred stack I got for Christmas is almost gone now), so a Blu-Ray burner sometime down the line in the future would be great.

I could care less about High Def stuff on TV, but better storage space I'm all behind.

I think Blu-Ray will probably win with it's increased storage capabilities. I don't like the almost draconian security they're planning for it, though.

I am staying out of it until it is settled. As for my bet I wouldn't rule out HD-DVD until Microsoft does first. There are large numbers of PC reasons for HD-DVD to win out and with PCs moving so far into the media world the new format can't limit itself to just movies. Maybe Blu-Ray will end up being fully PC supported and win out but currently with Microsoft in the other camp all bets are off.

Microsoft is staying in the other camp. The tech doesn't matter. If Sony was HD-DVD and Toshiba was Blu-Ray then Microsoft would have supported Blue-ray. At least until MS is done trying to take over the game console market.

What would be the advantages of HD-DVD for PC's? Blu-ray has more capacity. They both use basically the same copy protection. Blu-ray additionally has BD+, which is additional security though some have been concerned it could present a problem with playback or could be exploited.

Neither. Both have unfortunate DRM. If it weren't for that, I'd lean slightly toward Blu-Ray. As it is, though, HD-DVD has slightly better DRM.

So, I'm hoping both fail miserably -- to the point where the companies involved have serious financial troubles (DRM at this level should be subject to legal action) -- and another, sane, player moves in with a solution.
