Around here, nobody carries the torch (or cross?), like 4e folks.
I don't meant the current ones. I really mean back then. And offline too.

Can you go to far with good PR?Ok... maybe I forgot, what else they were...
to the PR... Yes. But it might go a bit too far releasing that under CC.
I think just releasing the next playtest would also give good PR.
People are still really mad at WotC (just look at replies to the tweet announcing the latest book). They need to give the community more than we had before they tried to deauthorize. You can easily just use con, wis and dex saves. I don't think it is needed for PR.

That means 4e and/or pre-WotC editions. And if they were to go "Hey we're adding BECMI and AD&D to the CC license" it would 1. massively anger 4e fans and 2. spawn a bunch of conspiracy theories about how they're planning to revive 4e for their digital VTT. No, they kinda have to at least go "we're adding the 4e SRD to the CC license" at this point even though the 4e SRD kinda blows.
Can you

Sure, and they can watch their stock value continue to tank.At that point, they can just ignore the people who won't ever stop harassing them. They won't be pleased anyway.

Vs. the company that tried to bully independent publishers into a ruinous contract via lawfare? Yeah, the angry tweeters are basically Obi-Wan at the end of Episode 3 here. What can they do right now. Pissed people will still be pissed. I don't think people harassing WotC and dump on every tweet are not on moral high ground either.

When using a word one just learned, one might take care to ensure one is using it correctly. Good day.Oh. I learnt a word I use here:
Whataboutism.
No. Being bullied does not give you a freepass to become the bully yourself.
People are pissed. They need to actually give something up. Otherwise it's "haha sorry we tried to screw you, how about we just go back to status quo and forget this ever happened" and that's not gonna fly.I think there is a pretty strong chance of the 3E and 3.5E SRDs getting released to Creative Commons. From WotC's point of view, there is very little downside to doing that.
The 4E SRD might be a tougher sell, since it wasn't previously available under the OGL, so they're releasing genuinely new material for open use.
Pre-3E editions would require crafting a new SRD from scratch. I think at that point Wizards would be better off just gesturing in the direction of OSRIC.
Putting all their content under a CC license removes all incentive for them to mess with the OGL. That's good enough for me.In the end, the one question I really want answered is how they are going to fix the OGL 1.0a - in a binding legal way- so that nobody can try to deauthorize it in the future. In reading the comments in the Bob the World Builder discussion on the issue, that appears to be one of the three biggest questions everyone has.
