BoED -- things to look out for?

Oh, and on the Initiate of Pistis Sophia. Does anyone else have a problem with a 10 levle PrC that can't be taken until after 12th level? One of the requirements is the Sanctify Ki Strike feat, which requires Ki Strike (lawful), which a monk does not get until 10th level. So, unless you already have the Vow of Poverty feat, which will allow you to take it as your bonus exalted feat for 10th level, you can't take it until 12th level when you get your next normal feat.

It adds +2 to all charisma-related rolls, +1 to saving throws against spells AND 1 extra skill point per level. Any one of those abilities is probably worth a feat.

In our campaign we decided the Ki strike (lawful) requirement was a misprint and changed it Ki Strike (Magic)

We now have very scary 72 year old monk chasing us around!

I was going to start another thread on this, but I thought I would post it here. What do people think about Resounding Blow? (Is that the right name? I can't remember.) Resounding blow has relatively low pre-reqs forcing victims to save or cower for 1 round on a critical hit. Save is Willpower at 10 + half your level + Cha mod.

It basically means that person is rogue-bait for a round. And if you have iterative attacks, you have a really good chance to hit them. Since fighter-types are notoriously bad at Will saves, I was wondering if people felt this was unbalancing. Or is the "only on a crit" a good enough balancer? I was concern about keen falchion-wielding fighters...or paladins...or barbarians!

An enfeebling weapon property that does STR damage on a hit.

I believe its only on crits, not hits, puting the weapon closer to being on par with wounding.

The Amulet of Retributive Strike is most definitely underpriced at a mere 56,ooogp. It should be an epic item if it exists at all.

Vow of Poverty can get very nasty very fast.

Resounding blow is definitely too nice. Falchion Wielding Weapon Masters and/or Paladins will have a heyday.

I took a look at BoED and I was worried about those Sanctified Spells, especially because Clerics can spontaneously cast any sanctified spell.
Are they too strong ? Is the sacrifice price too cheap for some spells ? What the general opinion about these spells, did you guys allow it in your campaign?

I'm kinda puzzled why sorcs and other spontaneous casters can't cast sanctified spells (except via scrolls). It seems like a flavour thing more than anything else. And as for letting clerics cast them spontaneously; yes, it's a book about gods and stuff, but jeez, like clerics needed another powerup.

I'll probably ditch the Vow of X feats too. IMO they go too far in terms of balancing mechanics with roleplaying restrictions, which should be a no-no. Plus Vow of Poverty plays silly buggers with class balance, as many people have noticed.

A player in one of my groups just started an 11th (now 12th) level monk as a new character after one of his earlier characters died and he, rather callously, decided it was time for an "upgrade".

He's playing a human monk with the vow of poverty and it's pretty good: powerful without in any way overshadowing the rest of the party and probably about the same as if he had had the DMG's standard level of equipment. I play a fairly high-powered game (point buy ability generation with 42 points to spend) so that may colour my comment.
