Boundless Endurance?

A short rest lasts 5 minutes. There aren't two separate conditions for ending encounter-long powers. It's always after 5 minutes.

A conditional duration of "until the end of the encounter" is defined on PHB p278: "The effect ends when you take a rest (short or extended) or after 5 minutes".

So if the stance lasts "until the end of the encounter", then immediately after the last round of combat, neither of those conditions have been fulfilled - he has not taken a rest (short or extended), nor have five minutes passed. The conditional duration lasts until one of those specified events occurs.

Thank you very much.

Another example where I didnt read the rules properly in 4e, but instead filled the holes with 3.x terminology :)

Just one more related question to be clear: does "take a rest" trigger if you just started taking a rest? I.e., if you get surprised after you´ve rested for 3 minutes, do you still are in a stance? (Sorry for the nitpicking :) )

Or, in other words, the end of the encounter is not a condition that ends an effect that lasts until the end of the encounter.

Actually (wish I had my books to give a page number) the listed steps for how to resolve an encounter ends with "one side dies/flees and the other takes an rest (short or extended)".

Officially, an encounter is never over without a rest of some kind.
