One deserves to be a class. The other is just a fighter with some in game structure. I'll refrain from saying which is which, but I'm not a huge fan of either.

I really want both to win, but I had to vote for the Paladin because it has three great subclasses that are unique in their own right and VERY playable. I've played in two different campaigns with Paladins so far and one campaign that had two Paladins. The subclasses of Paladin, along with the Fighting Styles, make them unique enough to enjoy side-by-side. I don't think Fighters or Barbarians could do this. In fact, I've only seen people play the Berserker. Having said this, I can't take away the ingenuity of the 5e Barbarian. WotC has made a class that is closer to the 1e Unearthed Arcana Barbarian that was playable and thematic than any other version before it. That's a huge accomplishment and if it beats the Paladin it's no loss.

Clear as mud?

All clear except what is the question.

Do you want us to choose which one is more fun to play? More compelling character concept? More powerful in the game? More powerful in combat? More likely to win if they had to fight PvP? Better mechanical design? Best balanced? More creatively/innovatively designed? Most improved from previous editions?
