(do you leave your 'nests' in place or yuo you restore the trees to thier origional state?)
Quarion will unloose the nests. He doesn't want the trees to grow unnaturally. He thanks Verdante for giving such safe resting places, and then moves on with the others.

Upon reaching the pillar, Quarion stops and says, "This pillar, these carvings, they are not natural. They have been created by man."

OOC: That insightful comment was brought to you by a KN: Nature check (1d20+9=15)!

All you can figure out is that it is indeed some kind of abjuration effect, although you can't make out the exact nature of it (and indeed, Quarion is right about the part where it is not natural but crafted :) )

(OOC: Well, in that case let's have Mordik Take 20 to Search it with his spiffy Trapfinding powers to see if he considers the ward to be a magical trap--i.e. : Will it zap and kill us. If the answer is no, then at worst it will just keep us out, so we will try to proceed)

just a question: is the glyph in the inside part of the pillar (that is, the direction opposite to the way back to the village), the outside (facing the village), or just all over the pillar?

(OOC: Good thought though Someone. Alright if Mordik takes 20 Searching, he'll get a 28. 30 if someone aids. Will that detect a trap? According to the skill description, 28 finds level 3 spell or lower traps, and 30 finds level 5 spell or lower traps. Also, Mordik incorrectly lists his Disable Device as +9. I believe he mistakenly thinks it uses Dex instead of Int)

(OOC: I've fixed my sheet. my apologies, I don't know if at the time I was confused or just typoed. I've never played in such a way that you could "take 20" trying to find a trap - it's a check that if you fail the trap could possibly go off, therefore there's a risk involved. Risk involved = no taking 10/20 without that special rogue skill. If that's how it's played here, though...)

Mordik will look over the stone column/obelisk. Hmmm..I could try and figure it out. gimme a minnit.

(OOC: My search is +8, Disable Device is +8. I'll either try 3x or take 20 if possible, whichever the DM/Judge rules.)

(OOC: By RAW, there is 0% risk in Searching for traps (especially since you can search from 10 feet away by RAW, which may not even be close enough to trigger it. It is indeed true that you cannot take 10 or take 20 on Disable Device because of the risk of setting it off. You have them mixed up again ;)

EDIT: Oh, and just for the heck of it, even though it was voted "most superfluous rule in all of D&D" on another thread here, there is a rule by RAW that
Active abjuration spells within 10 feet of each other for 24 hours or more create barely visible energy fluctuations. These fluctuations give you a +4 bonus on Search checks to locate such abjuration spells.

EDIT #2: Oh, and since it's built into stone, that's another +2 from the dwarf stonecunning (this does indeed apply to magical traps as well as long as they are built into stone, like the obelisj--see the Search table in the SRD/PHB where the little note indicates this) )
