Eanos, human monk

Eanos is thrown by the sudden light, and it takes him a moment to realize the threat it seems to represent. He curses himself for not having sensed Graven's treacherousness before now, but decides he hasn't the time to dwell on it.

[sblock=OOC]Initiative vs. Graven (1d20+2=8)

How far away from Graven are we?[/sblock]

"Deceived? What?" Aletheia adopts a confused expression, "What do you mean? What did the Guardian tell them? It seems like your last group lied to you about even going to the shrine because it was undisturbed, including a ring magic item that was still there and an entrance that was sealed. Why would that all still be there if they had actually gone? Let's not jump to conclusions!"

*Aletheia sighs. She despises killing other people, even if they are misguided. At least this Lord Graven appears to be Chaotic Evil...or at least she sincerely hopes that they aren't killing someone Lawful Evil. The Hells don't need more souls to power those horrible Devils. Still, Odno's call galvanises her to act just after the Seer does.*

(OOC: Ironically, Init is 7, so she goes right after Odno)

ooc: let's assume that the glass is still on top of the gem and Graven has his hand on top of the cover.

The red light that started to emit from the gems grows brighter and after a few seconds it emits three blinding red pulses. Then the glow reduces to a soft warm glow. The room, however has changed somewhat after those three flashes. The door seems to be gone. The wall seems uninterrupted where the door once was. Lord Graven also seems to be missing. What is new, is that there are numerous chains hanging from the ceiling, slowly rocking as if some breeze is stirring them (although you don't feel any movement of the air).
In the back of the room you see a vague shape moving, accompanied by the sound of clattering chains.

[sblock=knowledge the planes DC 13]
This can be nothing other than a Chain Devil, also called a Kyton.

Normal weapons have limited effect on these devils. It is said that a blessed or silver weapon has more effect in harming them.
They are also immime to any harmfull effects based on cold.
[sblock=knowledge the planes DC 18]
These creatures are masters of thier chains, able to control and animate any chain and cause them to sprout barbed hooks.
They shrug off the magics of weaker spellcasters without any harm done and
are capable of regenarting lost limbs.

[sblock=Knoelwdge the planes DC 23]
A chain devil can make its face resemble one of an opponent’s departed loved ones or bitter enemies, causing one to attack without resolve or hold back on his attacks.
A chain devil’s natural weapons, as well as any weapons it wields, are treated as evil-aligned and lawful-aligned for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction.

You guys go now! The room seems 30 by 30 feet and the ceiling 15 feet high. The vague shape is in the far right corner.

Eanos, human monk

Eanos isn't sure what's just happened, but it's clear their erstwhile employer's decided to make trouble. Given their suspicions, the monk chooses to err on the side of caution even before he's identified the creature on the other side of the room.

Retrieving a vial from his enchanted haversack, Eanos downs it in one gulp.

[sblock=OOC]Graven's gone, but are the gem and its case still here?

Eanos is drinking that Bear's Endurance potion he picked up. Move action to retrieve an item from Handy Haversack, standard action to activate (drink) potion. Eanos now has an effective Con of 16, HP of 47, and Fort save of +8.[/sblock]

*Aletheia's eyes narrow. She's much more upset now than before, for obvious reasons.*

"He tricked us! That isn't a demonstone with a demon in it at all; it's much worse--it summoned a devil!" Ally is angry at being betrayed by the crazed noble, "Sis told me about the kytons. We need to use blessed or silver weapons and avoid the chains, since it can animate them to attack with spikes. It is also nearly immune to direct magical attacks from the likes of us. It has one more ability, but I can never remember that one. Almost..." she shakes her head, "Sorry, it's not coming to mind."

(OOC: Awww, she got a 22 and failed to learn the last SBLOCK by 1. I know what the ability is, though, so in case it matters, Ally actually does not have a departed loved one or a bitter enemy--in fact, she hates devils so much more than any actual specific living person that ironically, if it just stayed as a devil, that would be the worst thing for her :D)

((OOC: Ugh. I suppose this is the danger of a monk on the front line: Eanos isn't proficient with any of the silvered weapons we have, and I don't think Ally's high enough level to cast a spell to align his natural attacks. :( ))

(OOC: You are correct, sir. :( At least we do have silvered weapons, though. Ally did not receive a number in her SBLOCK, of course, but off-hand I'm still 90% certain that the DR is only 5, so he can at least hurt it. The trouble is (and Ally got this in the SBLOCK but just didn't mention it) that non-silver or holy attacks will also just do nonlethal damage that it can regenerate 2 every round with its regeneration ability. Yeah, being a level 2 Cleric makes Ally a bit useless for buffs other than Bless--sorry about that :eek:)

ooc: RA, does Ally undertake any actions or is her small speack her action?
The Gem and the case are still there (with the gem emitting a soft red light).
Any actions for Odno and Mordik?
