Note how they're continuing to string us along on the whole Giles thing by having him conviently out of town.

Good point. While the First is recouping Giles is gone. Was Anya out of town with him?

Xander's speech was very well done, showing just how much he understands. It almost was a death speech.

I still say Dawn may already be a slayer, she is a Buffy clone when you think about it and she is not really human.

Dawn and Buffy, I think this is what Joyce was telling Dawn, Buffy has picked the 'to bes' over her.

Giles? Is he or is he not? Will we see a wounded Giles come in and then a first clone to face each other?

It's interesting that Buffy keeps talking to the Slayer candidates about the fact that one of them might be next slayer, the scoobies are talking about how Buffy would have to die for that to happen. Everyone seems to be talking about what happens after Buffy dies. But if Buffy dies no Slayer will be called. Faith has to die for that to happen. Faith hasn't even been mentioned this season that I know of. I know that it's been said she'll be in 2-4 episodes but everybodies dancing around it quite well.

Thoughts:

Xanders speech was the best "Supporting Actor" speech ever given. Ever. As Dru said, it was worth the whole episode. Very touching.

Buffy's slayer school was quite good in my opinion. The part where she left the four girls alone against the vampire reminded me so much of the watcher test from the Third Season. (Anyone remember Kralik, the spoon-fed vampire?) I kind of wonder if that's where she got the idea from?

Dawn's journey this episode was also a "worth waiting for." It's about time Michelle Trachtenberg had something to sink her teeth into (pun intended) beside playing "the whiny klepto brat." The last time she had this much face time was in the Season Premiere. But I think we are in for yet one more piece of misdirection. I think there are TWO slayer candidates native to Sunnydale, and I think that the spell didn't lie. The scene that makes me think this is the scene where Dawn fights the vampire in the school lab, with Buffy's voice-over about qualities the Slayer possesses.

Spike continues to be a fascinating character, and I hope some resolution comes between him and Buffy in the end.

Giles... hmmm. Giles? Hmmm. But... hmmm. Giles? *shrug* We'll see.

Favorite scenes:

--EDIT: How could I have forgotten Buffy's statement about Andrew being like an emotional mushroom "Whever he's near evil, he picks up its flavor?"

--Buffy's scene in the demon bar about how shifty and evil demons were, followed by Clem's heart-warming, "Buffy! Hey, girl, how ya been?"

--Rona's line: "Wonder if she dated him too?"

--Buffy's line about Spike's Crypt being "Comfortable" - followed by the girls' reactions.

--And of course, the "Standing just outside the spotlight speech," which was as cool as :):):):) (Sorry.) :D

Funny, ain't it? And no one's questioned this either, DESPITE the fact that Buffy was in on Faith's turning herself over to the police. Just goes to show you Buffy's self-centeredness in action. Buffy has always been a self-centered character, even when fighting for the good, it was always a world that revolved around how needed SHE was. So, hopefully, it will be a real head-stander if Faith dies, and a new slayer is called.

PREDICTION: Total speculation, but I have a feeling that when the big battle for the End happens, we will see about a half-dozen slayers called, ONE RIGHT AFTER THE OTHER, in the same episode. Buffy finds out in surprise that Faith is the key slayer now, not her, and when faith dies, the others get triggered like dominoes. Then, when the last slayer besides buffy dies, and all hope is lost, Dawn turns out to be a slayer candidate too.

Again, total speculation, but it would make for one heck of an episode.

I'd like to say that looking back on the ep now (as opposed to posting right after watching it) I like the 2nd half very much and the first half not as much. :)

Just to stray OT for a bit, did anyone else notice (for those with the DVDs) that one of the watcher's council helpers that got vampified was none other than the actor who plays Malcom Reed on Enterprise?

And yes, I was thinking the same thing about a slayer training other potential slayers. It's probably never been done before, at least while the council has been around anyway.

Actually, if you notice, Buffy has been very Obi-wan about training the new slayers. She's been using alot of black and white terms (kill or be killed, feed on instinct) and in some cases blatently lied (I believe she mentioned that all vamps are basically the same). I think she is speaking in terms like these to get a point across about all the killing and death. She seems like she doesn't want to muddy up the picture so-to-speak. And I don't blame her considering that she has had sexual relationships with 2 very powerful and at one time, dangerous vampires.

And I know that I've even harped on this many times, but it has never been specifically said in the show (only by Joss, which I do believe, BTW) that Faith's death is the only one that will trigger a new slayer. This has been proven however: Buffy died at the end of season 5 and there was no new slayer called. And here's a mind-trip addition to my last statement: As far as we know...

Correct me if I am wrong but has it actually been stated by some one who would know (in the show) That Faith is the one true slayer or that Buffy cannot bring about a new slayer. I mean it has never happened (that we know of) that there has been two slayers and one coming back from the Dead (Completely dead) is a bad thing (Hence the first running amok). Wh can't there be two slayer lines now. Hell they have plenty of potentials.

Would be weird.
