Buffy FInale (Possible spoilers, but mainly speculation)

I was just thinking about the team-up that seems likely to happen in the Buffy finale.

We'll have: Buffy, Faith, Angel, Spike and Willow almost definately. That's TWO slayers, TWO of the meanest vampires around plus possibly the meanest witch on the planet. That's a lot more firepower than Buffy started with 7 ears ago, which was pretty much just her on her own.

We also have about 10 trained potential slayers in reserve, ready to replace the active slayers. So a potential foe kinda has to go through 12 slayers, 2 mean vampires and a nasty witch...

Possible additions, depending on who else is there, include Connor (another superbeing), and two ex-Watchers (Giles and Wesley).

I'm discounting the Principal, Gunn, Xander, Dawn and other people who have been known to throw a punch or two, but don't exactly rank up there in the power league with the others.

At this point, I'm thinking I really woun't want to be on the side of the bad guys at the end of the series.

The foe most certainly does not have to go through 12 Slayers. The foe has half a brain - unless you kill Faith, the potentials are no more a threat than Xander is. Neither are the former watchers, when it comes down to a fight....

Also, lack of brute power does not necessarily count one out of a fight in the Buffyverse. The final conflict with the Mayor called upon an armed student body. The "non-combatants" played key roles in taking down Glory (Xander with a wrecking ball, and Giles with a simple twist of the wrist). And Evil Veiny Willow wasn't stopped with brute force at all...

Everyone's been saying, "Will Buffy die again?", but I've got a feeling it's going to be Faith. Every character this season seems to have gone or be going through some serious guilt/redemption issues. Anya over her demonic past, Xander over dumping her, Willow over murdering Warren, Andrew over killing Jonathan, Spike over being the First's puppet, etc. Seems like Faith's got a massive karmic debt she owes the universe.

And one thing: did the floating beholder-looking oracle Giles and Anya visited specifically mention Buffy as the reason for the weakness in the slayer-line? Because I was thinking having the active slayer being a serial killer (of innocent people) doing time in a prison instead of out fighting evil might constitute a pretty serious weakness in the line. Buffy may be here on a technicality, but at least she's fighting the good fight.

My guess

My guess (total speculation) is that it'll come down to one large sacrifice to finish off the first evil. Buffy and gang will be beaten and against the ropes, and then they'll learn of the only thing that can save them -- a prophecy of long ago about a Vampire with a soul.

As we know, Angel is that chosen one.

They'll fight with everything they've got to get to the designated sacrifice area, and then, just before Angel sacrifices himself to save the world, Spike will step forward and take his place.

Leaving Angel alive to go back and star in his show, which will hopefully get renewed for the next season.

Just a far-fetched guess, though.

I'm thinking Angel is going to have his hands full with whatever is going on in LA rather than go over to Sunnydale. He might appear in the finale, but I doubt he'll be involved in any fighting.

I believe the demon said "instability" rather than "weakness".

My own thougts - will Angel die? No, as he has his own series to star in. Will Spike die? Probably not, as he's too blasted good a character to throw away when there's Angel and a possible spinoff to put him in. Plus, for both of them, the prophecies say that "a vampire with a soul" will play a major part in Apocalypse, but not that he'll die. Will Buffy die? No, they've played that card on her too often for it to be dramatically meaningful, plus, they might not mind having her cameo occasionally in a spinoff.

Will Faith die? Probably - she's dramatically ripe for it, where the others are not.

VERY MINOR SPOILER AHEAD

Based, among other things, on a synopsis of a large skirmish in Ep 19...

The way that it will likely go down is that the powerful Scoobies/QuasiScoobies (Buffy, Faith, Spike, Angel, Willow) will take on the First and/or any UberMinions, while the others will take on bringers, of which there is probably a good-sized army.

The SITs when trained are all slightly more powerful than Bringers, as is Giles. Wesley(big power boost recently) and Gunn might be a little better than those others, and Wood, who beat 2 or 3 redshirt vamps at once, definately is. Xander and Dawn are about equal or slightly weaker than bringers, although Dawn is increasing in power quite rapidly (and might have some latent mystical abilities that will finally reveal themselves). Anya is pretty much useless, but from D'hoffryn;s predictions its pretty clear that she'll die in taht battle.

What the odds are really comes down to how powerful the corporeal first and his Uberminions are. The bringer battle is quite secondary. Likely none of the second-tier fighters can hurt whatever these things are at all, with the exception of promoted SITs..

Remember, Glory and Adam took the whole gang to fight.

Minor Spoilers

What's with this guy Joss's cast who is supposed to be the final Big Bad? I heard he's going to be played by the actor who was the captain on Firefly. He's supposed to be some kind of fallen preacher named Caleb. How does this fit into the whole First Evil plot? Will the First Evil possess this guy? Does he worship the First? Is it entirely unrelated, the way Dark Willow was just kind of sprung on us after building up the Trio all season long? Waddayouse guys think?

I think every evil being wants to be a god. The First is no exception. Thus I think it wants to use Caleb to be it's messanger and sort of Anti-Christ to convert the masses and then feed them to the Uber-vamps.

I don't really have any surmising to add, except that Dawn is probably a potential slayer too and they just haven't figured it out yet. But your whole post had me chuckling. "scoobies and quasi-scoobies", "red shirt vamps", hah. That brightened a stressful morning, thanks.
