Buffy FInale (Possible spoilers, but mainly speculation)

Now THAT James make sense to me. Buffy holding a significant portion of the power and the First knowing it. Definately well within it's character to plan for the long term and thus to keep ALL the potential do gooders at bay, concots a plot to keep the Scoobies on Buffy and the guys in LA busy while it (The First) cements it's hold on reality...and then unleashes true hell on earth. Yeah I like this idea the best. :)

Until this season, most fans hated Dawn. Far less do now, but in th meantime the spinoff seems to have got nixed.

Really? I've always really liked the character, from the first moment that she showed up in the house, like Athena, fully formed seemingly from nowhere. She, the character and the actor, have worked well as comic relief (a requisite on the show) and dramtic points. What are peoples complaints about her?

Umm i hate to burst bubbles but it isnt because when she died and Faith was activated. Its because the prophesy from the Perdiegm Codex (Prophecy Girl, Season 1) was undone.

Buffy was prophesized to die and her friend (Xander) interfered. Remember. Slayers are supposed to be hush hush and she is the first to incorporate her friends and her life into slaying

I think people's major problem is that she's the show's 'kid'. The 'kids' always get bad wrap.

Nitpick: Buffy's death activated Kendra. Kendra's death then activated Faith.

Actually, they've gotten at least some evidence that Dawn is not a potential Slayer. There was a bit of magic done to locate a potential whose exact location was unknown. It specifically did not find Dawn.

It was ambiguous. And if you don't buy that, it was looking specifically for the other girl, so the fact that it didn't find Dawn isn't real surprising. It didn't find Kennedy or any of the other potentials either. It wasn't really a 'find all potentials' spell so much as a 'find this one potential we heard about from the coven in England' spell.

For me, personaly, I've disliked her attitude. she's seemed like a whiny spoiled selfish brat from the begining. its alleviated from time to time and doesnt seem to be bad right now. but usualy she seems to have always been going on because she's not the ceneter of attention every second even tho her sister is busy saving lives. and she's often put herself and others in danger through temper tantrums brought on by....just about anything.
Thats purely my personal opnion of course...and I have no desire to argue against any others. But you asked so I'm telling you :-)

Really? I'm just taking this from Giles' statements in "What's My Line Part 2":

GILES
Not that I know of. The new slayer is only called after the previous
slayer has died- (then/realizing) Good lord . . . You were dead, Buffy.

BUFFY
(defensive) I was only gone for a minute.

GILES
Clearly, it doesn't matter how long you were gone. You were physically dead, causing the activation of the next slayer.

KENDRA
She . . . died?

BUFFY
Just a little.

GILES
Yes, she drowned. But she was revived.

Either way, her death activated Kendra (got me there!) one way or another - perhaps that diluted the "Slayer-ness" for the First Evil?

Interestingly enough, in the episode you mention, Prophecy Girl, Buffy mentions that she wants to quit the whole Slayer biz and live a normal life... :) Perhaps her wish will be fuliflled?

Which is why I said, "some evidence" rather than "It has been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt"

It wasn't really a 'find all potentials' spell so much as a 'find this one potential we heard about from the coven in England' spell.

Perhaps my memory is not serving me well, but I don't think it was quite so specific. I believe it was a "find the nearest potential" spell. And if Dawn were a potential, she would have been the closest - being in the room at the time.

Of course, the spell acted oddly right from the start. We can speculate on that for some time. Suffice to say, I don't think Joss would take the cheap trick of saying this, and then simply saying, "Ha ha! I misled you!". Buffyverse plots are usually a touch more twisted than the simple double-take.
