Buffy Season 3

In terms of overall story arcs, Season 2 is my favorite. But I've found various episodes in pretty much each season to be highly entertaining, so I've never felt the show particularly lost anything over the years.

Season 3 was good. Faith is one of my favorite characters on the show (okay, so I have a weakness for certain bad girl types), and it seemed to me they didn't really know what to do with her that season. I'm sure the whole "rogue slayer" thing was planned out from the beginning, but there are a bunch of other ways they could have gone with it. But Faith's later appearances have been pretty good, and I can't wait for her return this season. The season finale for season 3 was also a bit weaker than other seasons, IMHO.

Too much of it seemed forced to me. If you know the apocalypse is coming, you leave anyway, even if it means no high school diploma. I never cared for Xander's artificial soldier training/memories, either.

And, by the way, The Zeppo is my favorite Buffy ever. Action ("I'm the one who cleverly distracted the lead demon by allowing her to pummel me about the head"), comedy ("Yeah, it was real manly the way you shrieked and all"), silliness ("You'll find that was more of a bellow"), and cheesy background melodrama ("I can't stand to lose you again." "That was the bravest thing I've ever seen") Xander is my favorite character on Buffy, and that episode was all about him.

Xander was my favorite character as well... up until Season 3. Other than "The Zeppo" he didn't have a whole lot to do other than make the occasional witty remark.

In Season 3 Willow became my favorite character. That has nothing to do with the leather corset, no sir... absolutely not.

;)

I personally like old Willow much better than the new all powerful character. I dislike to strong influence of magic on the show after season 3. First few seasons Giles warnes about the darkness of magic and the complexities, then Willow gets all of this magic and they completely change her personality. Xander now has no one to play his humor off of and becomes the silent mope he is now.

Agreed. And the "magic addiction/drug addiction" metaphor was more than a little strained. Although as far as Xander's comic foil, I'd have to point to Anya, whom I've enjoyed quite a bit.

Joss apparently said later that his decision to kill a character in season 2 was down to Jenny and Oz, and Seth's movie career choice made him wish he'd gone the other way.

Awww.

After years and years of hearing people rant about the show, I finally bought Season One and fell in love with it. Now on Disc 3 of Season 3.

As much as I really like Oz, I wish it had been Jenny over him. I really liked her character, so maybe that's why her death was such a total shock. I wish she was still here; I was fascinated by her.

Plus, she was cute as hell.

Okay. stupid Doc M thing to say out of the way, now on to other, slightly less stupid Doc M things.

I just burned through my Buffy Season 3 set... I've been watching them madly since Sunday morning. Man I love this show... and seasons 2 & 3 were just outstanding. I'd forgotten how great some of this stuff was. I'd even forgotten a number of plot twists... so in Enemies, I only remembered halfway through, and groaned with goodness.

Not in a weird touched-by-frogs way.

I also think that Eliza Dushku is a much better actor than Sarah Michelle Gellar.

She may or may not be a better actress, but it's a bit moot, as they ruined the character by having her go a little too far. She is damaged goods in a major way.

I can accept accidentally killing another human in the middle of a zealous adrenaline rush. I cannot abide a character who enjoys the cold-blooded, lengthy torture of another human being. Faith was a great character up until that point, where she ceased to be plausibly redeemable.
