Building a stronghold on shoestring budget

Well maybe next to a vein of lead then (Actually, I'm not sure if lead runs in veins through the rock. . .) Any magic obscuring material would do though. (Gold is usually mentioned next to lead in lists of things that stop detection spells but if you could build your base in a gold mine you wouldn't be so resource limited.

Are you sure that lead disperses in vapor form anyway? I've always thought that lead was pretty inert and would remain in solid form and not really be absorbed into the body unless you used it for eating utensils, water pipes or snack food.

I'd vote against the vein of lead idea. Lead vapor is unfriendly, but then again, most PC's wont live that long anyway...

Why is there a Transmute Metal to Wood but not a Transmute Wood to Metal
If you could develope that, then it would be a semple prosses of around the outside of your 'base' of operations, sink in a fairly large section of wood, then trasmute it to lead, it wont be close enough to do any harm to you, but will be close enough to prevent anyone from Scrying on you.

Btw, I might just try and create that spell, if I happen to remember when I wake up in the morning:). If I do, and anyone is interested, Ill post it in here, or maybe I ought to post it in the 'House Rules' section.

/me isnt sure where it would go, but he will post it here anyway :p. Unless informed that he wont otherwise;)

Summon Monster spells last in rounds, as in segments of six seconds. That means a twentieth level caster would be summoning Xorns for 120 seconds, or two minutes. Even extend spell would turn that into only four minutes, and persistent spell doesn't work on the Summon Monster spells.

This ruling makes it absolutely absurd to think that you could use them for anything but combat (Scout monsters disappearing before you're even done giving them instructions), so most DM's overlook it so long as it's not abused.

Maybe the Planar Ally, Planar Binding, or Gate spells would work better?

Actually I was going on the fact that they have a burrow speed of 20', but now that I read the description of that ability it turns out that they don't actually disturb any earth as they move through it. Frankly, I don't see how that's possible for an (Ex) ability. (Su) would make sense, but how do you non-magically travel through solid rock without disturbing the rock in any way?

Oh well. I wonder if, with enough research, my DM would let me polymorph my party members into umber hulks. ;)
