Campaign Cartographer 2

Question:

Is their anything out there better than CC2? While this program is decent at what it does, it could be a whole lot better. I'm also miffed by the fact that ProFantasy requires me to have a "real" email address in order to subscribe to updates. (That's ridiculous.)

A related question, what do you GM's out there use for mapping? Good ole' graph paper, or $100 software?

In the past I have used CC2, AutoRealm, Hex Mapper, Dungeon Crafter.... I find the CC2 is the best for overland maps and DungeonCrafter for Dungeons.

ProFantasy is working on improving CC2. Some of the best improvements so far are the newest symbol sets that are available for purchase.

CC2

I also use CC2 and all the add ons. I like them a lot and feel that the learning curve is steep to get to the "really good map" level. But they are very good.

I as well am uber miffed that my hotmail account is not a real account for them. I travel and use the hotmail as my main account.

oh well,

Thanks

Thanks for the info guys...

I think Auto Realm will do the trick for indoor maps.

CC2 is a decent program, however, I do not like it's layout or ProFantasy's rules regarding web-based email adresses. I may still use it for overland maps, but in the meantime, I'll be looking for different products...perhaps Fractal Mapper.

As for Plodnik...hehehe. I can't wait for my character to go insane in CoC!!

I usually use AutoRealm for terrain maps: it's free and is not much worse than CC2. The main problem with AR is, anyway, that it becomes sluggish with complex maps, and has some bugs related to redraw.

For dungeons the best is always Dungeon Crafter (at least the 1.4 version; the 2 alpha is still very alpha)
Pencil and paper is fast and good, but paper maps tend to be damaged easily, or to be lost (expecially by me).

I hate the maps I've drawn by hand. They look like something a child would do. Second thought, a child could do better.

I only draw basic outlines to figure out what should go where, then scan it in and trace it. After that, I use CC2 for the rest of the work.
