Can Dextyr Keep All These Strikers Alive? (DM: JoeNotCharles, Ozymandias79 Judging)

The halflng squeaks. "ACK! My name is Lilf Proudfoot, some rich guy hired us, he said you killed his father and we were supposed to delay you until reinforcements arrived... uh, big word, big word, um, uh... until MORE PEOPLE CAME, and he seemed like he was in a big hurry, and that's all I can think of PLEASE don't kill me!"

OK, so now she starts to reveal that she's been listening, though she doesn't look up.

"Tell him how many people are coming, child."

"How should I know? Lots! He said something about spending however much it would take, and how we would be the 'first wave'. I dunno, I wasn't paying attention - Kev over there did all the dealing." He jerks his head towards one of the dead bandits, the one that was waiting for you here. The motion sends him spinning.

"Come to think of it, 'first wave' sounds like he didn't expect us to survive. I guess I should have paid more attention. I think I'm going to be sick."

"I think I'm going to be sick."
Tonk steadies the halfling and studies Proudfoot's eyes.

"Is like fever sick or throw-up sick or poo-poo sick? You is upside down and naked, so no bad if you throw-up sick, but is much bad if poo-poo sick, because where you think poo-poo go?"

Tonk rummages in his jacket pocket and produces the pouch of dried-up tobacco.

"If you want, I share this. Is dry leaf of plant that you smoke. I no like to smoke, but if eat little bit, it kill worm in stomach and make come out in poop. So, maybe fix you sick, yes? Is little dry, no? But is okay, because dry make crunchy! I like crunchy. You like crunchy? One time I have worm in poop that long as from tip of finger from to elbow! Really! It still wiggle when come out, too! I pinch off head and make necklace for Mama."

Tonk addresses his companions while awaiting Proudfoot's response.

"I bet employer is boy in note you read to me, Jaffrey Applethorpe. I think maybe we just sneak away and no fight lot. Is more simple. Then, we sneak into house of boy and say is all big no understand right. If we no know where is house, we go to lawyer of boy. They tell us where for to go. Then, no whole bunch of person have to die because boy mad at god. He need go talk to god to get fix problem."

"And speak of 'have to die': Why kill, kill, kill? They is hire just like us. Maybe they not bad person, though Guy Who No Surrender is bad person, because he lie. Why lie? Now he dead. Is stupid. But, look. See. We is talk to little guy like civilize, and we is no mad now. Is good, yes?"

"Kind Tonk.
I am proud to be your companion,
Life is precious to you.
Laughter follows you.

These fellows,
however, let loose the first shot.
Every move of this fight was planned.
Make no mistake.

And if you doubt me,
Look a the
logs."

Mikara points to the trap by the road.

"I think it kind enough that we spared this one, but I wouldn't let him go just to find his sling aimed at the back of Dextyr's head all over again."

Mikara sighs as she contemplates Tonk's proposal.

"I do agree with you though, that it would be better to avoid a fight."

Though we ought to be ready for one whether we want it or not.

"Is good point," Tonk states in a philosophical tone, "Plus, I no only look at log, I make close friend with log. Is like open-mouth kiss, and not even on date number one!"

Tonk laughs.

"Hey! Anybody search dead body? Maybe find good stuff, like magic mace? Or magic knife? Or even better, magic mace that be smart and talk and shoot beam of light that make bone into goo? Or even, even better, maybe find something good to eat? Oh, I think maybe I go back to hut and get food. You know, I find two jar of heal stuff. If you want, you can get out of bag of me."

Tonk spends Healing Surges to get back to full HP.

Dextyr sits back and watches the whole thing unfold with an amused grin on his face.

if we are taking a short rest, Dex will use his song of rest and majestic words abilities like last time to maximize our healing surges (so Tonk could get +8 hit points with a surge, and I'd have 1 left)

Tristan smiles to himself a small smile as he watches Tonk at work. He busies himself searching the bodies of the recently deceased ambushers. One time that he passes near the hanging halfling, he pokes him in one disjointed glenoid fossa (ie - his dislocated shoulder. Wife's a nurse, what can I say ;)), just to help the interrogation along.

"If this Jaffrey is so eager to defy the gods, and these bandits so eager to accept pay to do the same, perhaps we should turn their ambush around on them. I have no qualms killing those who would turn Dayna's living woods into mere weight to drop on an enemy,"
Tristan says as he inspects the edge of his blade.
[sblock=ooc]Hi everyone! I had a wonderful time, and now I'm back. Looks like we did fairly well for this fight, other than Tonk getting fallen on by a bunch of logs. Thanks for taking good care of Tristan! :)

Also, Perception to search the bodies (1d20+11=31). [/sblock]

After thinking over the options Dextyr moves over to where Tristan and Mikira are discussing tactics and beckons Blade and Tonk to come over. "Well then I suggest that we quickly rest up and tend to our wounds and prepare for the reinforcements that are coming."

"So what do you prefer to do, Prepare an ambush of our own or should we avoid the others and search out the young Applethorpe and bring the fight to him"? Dextyr asks the others in a lowered voice so their prisoner would not hear.

"And what do we do about him?" Dextyr motions over to the suspended halfling? "If we plan to set an ambush we could use him as bait, but if we go off after Applethorpe then he is a liability if left alive. I do not particularly like the little rock chucker, but as a hired thug is he not in the same class us us? Did we just not slaughter a defenseless group of old men because someone paid us to do so? He was paid to kill us, the only difference is that he failed. I do not know if I have the stomach to kill him in cold blood." Dextyr finishes his speech looking to he others for an answer to him moral dilemma, hoping perhaps that they will have the solution.

Basically Dextyr would rather not make the call on killing the halfling - but if someone less 'good' were to take justice into their own hands.....

Also what is the plan - set an ambush or go after Applethorpe? If we set an ambush then we have the advantage of setting the battlefeild to our liking, but we have no idea how many reinforcement we will face. If we go after Applethorpe we may be able to avoid a big fight. Remember, we do have very limited resources (healing surges).
