Can Major image knock someone out?

Legend
Major Image produces thermal effects, so it could produce the effect of someone on fire, and they would feel the heat of burning.

Would they eventually pass out from the "fire damage" or since it never creates damage would they simply just keep running around and screaming FIRE FIRE!!

I remember the good old Phantasmal Force spell. If the person believed they were dead, they fell unconscious. I think that's the cause of many of these illusion questions. Long time players are trying to use the same tricks.

Were are old, not senile, you know.

And actually I never really played before 3e dnd:)

So how should I rule it, basically the player will act as if on fire for a few rounds, then would probably get a nice bonus to their will save since there not burning up. If they fail, wash and repeat every couple of rounds?

I wasn't inferring that you were (I'm one of these old time players too you know :P).

I've just had a couple of guys try to play illusions like in 2nd Edition and got miffed when I wouldn't rule that way :)

If the victim is a PC, you can't dictate that he must "act as if on fire." You tell the player that his PC is burning, and it's up to him how to react.

Some characters, when apparently set aflame, will finish slaughtering the evil wizard (or whatever) before they bother to put themselves out. After all, what's more dangerous: a few dice of normal fire damage, or a few more rounds of enemy spells?

In any case, the victim should get an immediate Will save (because he is interacting with the illusion). Even if that fails, I'd give a new save every round, possibly with an increasing bonus; even the dimmest fighter is going to eventually realize that he is feeling no pain.

If the character does something that would smother ordinary fire-- like dropping to roll on the ground, or jumping into a fountain-- he should automatically disbelieve.

That's pretty much how I'd do it (maybe only one or two rounds - depending on Intelligence - before they figure it out), though subsequent castings wouldn't probably work as they'd start to disbelieve right away. A dose of burning hands in the middle of it all might keep them on their toes :)

I tend to be a little lenient with illusions just to keep some of my players happy :) By rights they should get a Will save right away, but I figure the shock of being on fire might keep someone from realizing they're not burning for a few seconds.

As soon as an illusion produces incontrovertible proof that it is fake, it is automatically disbelieved. So the second a fire would normally cause damage but it does not, it is clear that it is an illusion.
