can Undead }"Rage?"

incognito

First Post
Since rage is pretty clearly mind affecting: Per the Spell Calm Emotions:

This spell automatically suppresses (but does not dispel) mind-affecting spells such as bless, confusion, emotion, and fear, as well as negating a bard’s ability to inspire courage or a barbarian’s rage.

Since undead are immune to mind affecting abilities - they should not be affected by rage, right?

The spell states that it ends mind affecting things, as well as ending rage.

Rage is not a "Mind affecting" ability as defined by 3e.

This has been asked to many times, try searching.

(Edit: and yes, they can, IMO.)

It's pretty clear that undead can rage, given all of the examples of barbarian undead that pop up in WotC modules and on the website. Moreover, the description of the calm emotions spell clearly states that it suppresses mind-affecting spell effects AS WELL AS negating rage, implying that rage might not be a mind-affecting ability. Finally, the description of rage does not give it the [mind-affecting] designator, unlike, say, many of the bardic music abilities.

Is Calm Emotions a mind affecting spell?

Yes it is, and this has weird implications for undead ragers. Since these ragers won't be affected by calm emotions, it can't stop them from raging. Scary, huh?

Although since they don't have a Con score, they'll be raging for all of 3 rounds, so I would guess most undead wouldn't bother.
