Can you Really kill someone?

Personally I like teh barghest/chaos beast solution. Quick, not clean, but definately efficient. And I could see an assasin's guild having one of those around just for that purpose.

One thing people I think have overlooked, is that while true resurrection brings back the person, it doesn't say it brings back them to the caster or anything.

You could put the body in a sealed up cavern, with an antimagic field on it. The body may get raised, but it dies again from lack of air, and I don't think its going to want to be raised again. Even if you tried teleporting there, you'd need a decent description of the area to know where to look, and divination spells would take time the body wouldn't have.

Hit them with a temporal stasis, then bury them in a permanent anti-magic zone somewhere really deep in the undercity of Sigil. Gods can't go there, and with the antimagic, divining is out of the question. Either that, or get them mazed by the Lady.

Easy.

Kill the King while dressed up looking like his closest friends and family. He will think everyone that loves him has betrayed him. So he won't want to be resurrected.

Coming back from the dead only works on the willing. ;)

Uhhhh.....

Hmmmm.....

How to break it to you.

How do you keep the Temporal Stasis effect going inside an anti-magic zone? ;)

Travel through time and kill his great great great great great great great great great grand parents. Then he will never have existed and you don't have to worry about Wishes/Miracles/Resurrections =)

Hang on.

We're all sat here saying that ultimately the gods could bring the king back from the dead.

Can we not find an evil God to keep the guy dead and buried?

Alternatively, if the villain could 'persuade' the king to sign his soul over to genericl nasty daemon x, then there'd be no possibility of his ressurection, surely?

Demiliches eat trapped souls over the course of 24 hours. trap the soul of the target, then deliver the gem to the nearest demilich as an offering of sorts. it can then magic jar the soul into one of its internal soul gems and eat it.

Sounds like a nice ally for an assassins guild. Trap the victim's sould, kill his body, deliver gem, & enjoy victim's friends' consternation when their raise dead spells on the body don't work.

My vote is for the Barghest also
The bad guys could easily have one, or even a pack- lead by a Greater Barghest, around.
A 15th Level Cleric can "Summon Monster" them.
You could snatch the target, feed him to the Barghest, and then "True Resurrection" him, if you have a high enough cleric, and if he makes the 50% do it again until he fails and stays dead or refuses and won't come back any more.

The Chaos Beast idea seems to work too.

The Leomund's Secret Chest idea is good, although the text statment- "although an extraplanar expedition might be mounted to find it" -kind of could ruin it.

Death by Mummy Rot may do it, although I'm not sure about that one.
