Can you spot the fake smile?

13/20 for me. What was interesting is that I too had most of my mistakes in the beginning five (three) because it took me a bit to realize how to do it. The other three were in the last five, because I kinda got sick of doing it. The middle ten I nailed though.

i got a 13/20. i'm not happy.

i know what through me though. although i KNEW what to look for, the videos all run a little too long, and then the sudden end to the smiles would stump me.

i am happy with one thing though. the ones i was ABSOLUTELY SURE of, i got right.
the ones i got wrong were probably the 7 i was least sure of.

18/20 here. The two blonds confused me though. I noticed that with the real smiles, the persons head seemed to move up and to the side alittle.

I got a 14 out of 20. On one of them (an old guy), my boss came to my cubicle, which caused me to have to put the test on hold (I did this yesterday at work). Well, when I returned I had forgotten what his smile was like and so I had to guess (you can only view the smile once). So, I say that I got a 14.5 out of 20...

No better than guessing here. Frankly the whole exercise just made me cynical - ALL the smiles started looking fake to me. :\

One possibility they didn't mention on why people don't distinguish well - A lot of people (myself included) probably spend more time in a day either watching TV or having "fake" encounters (with salespeople, etc) than they do intereacting authenticly with people who have no particular reason to fake smiles. Every smile you see on TV is fake, except maybe one or two. Most smiles you give or see at work are fake. I wonder if you compared how well people do with how much average "unscripted" facial exposure they have if you would get a correlation?

14/20 - the eyes are always the tell.
This test made made substantially harder by the freaky-looking people they used as models!
On the fairly normal looking people I got it right every time. The odder the person looked (There's one there about halfway through, where I couldn't even identify the gender!) the worse I did. Crooked teeth and big ears seemed to throw me too.
Interesting.
