D&D 5E (2014) cancelled 5e announcement at Gencon??? Anyone know anything about this?

Sorry, no fifth edition.

No sixth edition either

We have decided to skip directly to D&D 7th Edition because it will be that much more awesome than that tiresome 4e or that horrible 3.5 that we used to produce.

Only one attribute - your Stat. All rolls will be handled by adding your Stat to a D20 roll. Each level your Stat increases by one./snip

The Auld Grump

So, this would be the Monostat system?

There are thousands of uses for corn, all of which I will tell you about and stat up right now!

B-)

*DISCLAIMER: May actually be unfair and definitely mentally unbalanced!

Of course another reason it would be called off, if it was going to be announced, would be if they were going to announce open playtest for it. Someone up above, probably a lawyer, put the brakes on it. That's what I think happened to the last open playtest they were supposed to conduct that wasn't going to be behind the DDI firewall (yes I mean 4e). I'm waiting to see if the mini rules beta will actually see open playtest as they have mentioned.

How ever did you develop that tangent? Based on the post you quoted, nothing follows logic. Where did you pull the tangent from?

Somehow this was criticism on the private sector? Absurd.

I don't know, from this, perhaps:

"You can never, ever take anything that any representative of a for-profit company says as truthful."

Sorry, I didn't feel this added much to the conversation and was based even less in fact that the purported rumor appears to have been. YMMV.

No worries mate,

Here's the thing, the way I presented that comment it was intended as a general statement, not an attempt to villify corporate America. It certainly could be interpreted that way.. just in this case not appropriate.

The intent behind the statement when I wrote it was much like the core of your reply. "You can't hold a corporate manager to something they said three years ago when the market changes; therefore assume that whatever you heard yesterday is likely not true when you need it to be.. don't count on it."

Abstracted for simplicity: You can never, ever take anything that any representative of a for-profit company says, as true.

Thanks for posting though. That's one of the reasons I like this place. It's active.
