Caprica The Continuity Error

There is a big continuity error in Caprica.

In the last season of BSG, on the episode just after they find the nuked planet, they establish that the Cylons are centuries if not more than a millenium old.

Caprica changed all this and states that they are only about fifty years old and created by Greystone.

When I realized this I also realized that the writers are just going to ignore that error and go with the fifty years of Cylons. And at least for me this is a big error to ignore.

As I understand it, the caprican cylons and the final five are separate races. The caprican cylon centurions revolted and then left, the final five met them and gave them resurrection technology and made them look human, and then the new unified cylon race returned at the start of BSG to destroy the colonies.

Yeah, BSG also said that the cylons had been created a little more than 40 years before the start of the show, they'd fought a war, and the cylons had withdrawn & established a peace treaty of sorts. But "all of this has happened before" -- at least twice. The Final Five were survivors of a previous race of machine intelligences.

AFAIK, Caprica hasn't changed any of that, at least not the broad strokes (though I'm way behind in episodes -- my DVR runneth over).

Not a continuity error. In BSG and Caprica, the creation of machine intelligence, Cylons, has happened over and over again in a cyclic fashion over the millenia. Also, the Cylons and humans always war against each other, with devastating results.

The 13th Tribe (of the 12 Colonies) was initially thought to be human and had founded "Earth". But in BSG, we find out that the 13th Tribe is actually Cylon. The "Final Five" were a part of this Cylon 13th Tribe (or their descendents, actually) and they fled Earth before it was destroyed and they desired to end the cycle of Cylon/Human violence.

Meanwhile, the humans of the 12 colonies create Cylons (the show Caprica), go to war with them . . . and after the war the Final Five find these Cylons and teach them how to create the human-form Cylons and try to teach them the ways of peace. But the Number 1 model "Cavil" decided that machines were perfection and that the human-form Cylons like himself were somewhat "cursed" by their creators . . . so he wiped the memory of the Final Five, sent them to live on Earth as humans, and then proceeded with the genocide of the 12 Colonies, somehow without the other seven human-form models figuring this out (until the end of the show, of course!).

Yup, like folks said above, the Final Five are centuries old. The rest of the Cylons aren't. The Final Five approached the new Cylon race and offered them the secret of resurrection hubs shortly before the way.

I also wonder which Caprica this is, is it the one before BSG 2004, the one before that. Maybe one after it...

Huh?

Do you mean the orignal BSG with Lorne Greene?

The show Caprica takes place 40-60 years before the first BSG remake pilot (I guess that was 2004).

The original BSG never happened... Though I suppose somebody could imagine that it was a prior version of "all this has happened before" but that series has the cylons built by a long deceased race of lizard people.

Well it's possible that those Cylons Centurions at the end of the new BSG series decided to make humanoid bodies for themselves, started breeding, resettled Kobol, abandoned it, and then resettled the 12 colonies, becoming the Colonials of the old series. And after more than 200,000 years they forgot they were originally Cylons.

When BSG started it was 40 years after the conclusion of the Cylon War. Caprica is 58 years before the Destruction of the Colonies.

No Continuity errors. the Final Five might not have even arrived yet.

I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if they're planning to end Caprica with the arrival of the Final Five.
