One of my players came with the idea of a spell that tells you how badly wounded someone is.

There is a Cleric spell that does that ("Status" or some such, I don't remember what level.) You should be able to find it in the PHB.

Also, remember that you don't have to literally knock somebody out to subdue them. Saving throws or no.

There's a lovely magic item in the DMG called "Bands of Ballero", if your group can get it. Devilishly hard to escape from (DC30 strength to break, DC30 Escape Artest to slip out of... Don't recall the dispell off the top of my head, but it was equilly hellacious.) Follow a successful application of that item with a "Silence" and you've got 'em right where you want them.

If you can get your hands of a copy of the Book of Exalted Deeds (the WotC book, not the magic item :D ), I seem to recall there was a whole section on stuff used to subdue.

Does anyone know where I can find a Noble's House map?

There's a nice one in the module Matters of Vengeance available for free at the WotC web site. (http://wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/oa/20031128a)

The awesome FIRST level arcane spell Ray of Enfeeblement is your best friend in this situation. Why ?

There is no save.

You need to make a ranged touch attack, but I highly doubt his touch AC is that great. Have a cleric cast cat's grace on the arcanist prior.

If the arcanist also has maximise or empower feats, it will be even easier. A maximised/empowered Ray of Enfeeblement will chop down his Strength by 16 points each round. That's -8 to hit and damage. Each round. Cumulative.

Eventually (2 or 3 rounds), his strength will be at 1, and he will simply crumble under the weight of his own gear.

Priceless.

The penalty from RoE will not stack with itself.

It doesn't say that in the spell description, so I'm assuming you get that from somewhere else in the books.

Do tell me from where (page number please), because this will change my character. Greatly.

From the Magic Overview section of the PHB.

Quoted from the SRD:

COMBINING MAGICAL EFFECTS
Spells or magical effects usually work as described, no matter how many other spells or magical effects happen to be operating in the same area or on the same recipient. Except in special cases, a spell does not affect the way another spell operates. Whenever a spell has a specific effect on other spells, the spell description explains that effect. Several other general rules apply when spells or magical effects operate in the same place:

Stacking Effects: Spells that provide bonuses or penalties on attack rolls, damage rolls, saving throws, and other attributes usually do not stack with themselves.

More generally, two bonuses of the same type don’t stack even if they come from different spells (or from effects other than spells; see Bonus Types, above).

-----

Ray of Enfeeblement is a "spell that provides a penalty on other attributes", so it doesn't stack with itself.

If it inflicted Strength damage, it would be cumulative. It's a penalty, so it's not.

The Str penalty will still stack with penalties from any other source, just not another RoE.

(The quick reference list says ability damage, but it's wrong - the spell text overrides the quick list text.)
