Casting higher Spells from Scroll

Horrendos

First Post
Hiho,

i would like to know how a Wizard can cast a higher scroll.
For Example he is lvl 1 and would like to use a scroll which a lvl9 wizard has crafted (Magic Missile). Does he make 5w4+5 (because lvl9 = 5 missiles)?
And the same question with a higher spell which requires also a higher Int. Is he able to cast it if he dont have the needed INT?

This is all explained in the chapter about scrolls in the DMG.

The caster level is that of the scroll, not that of the wizard, so yes 5d4+5.
If the wizard's caster level is too low, he has to make a check to make it work.
If the wizard's Int is too low (in the case of a 1st level spell 10 or lower, which is quite unlikely ;)), then he cannot cast it.

Bye
Thanee

The caster level check for spell with higher caster level than the scroll reader is:

the caster level of the scroll + 1

so for the magic missle scroll with a caster level of 9 the DC of the caster level check would be 10
