... Names: They are essential for a good flavor. As such, I think that Nevahrk "Lager-licker" is too much basic heroic-fantasy ...

I agree, and feel embarased for suggesting such a lame name. :o I will try to come up with something more teutonic/swiss for the dwarf.

I've joined the yahoo group, Turanil, and will e-mail you the character later today.

The seven players mentioned above have one week from now to join the googlelist and create their character. Those who don't are assume to leave places for others to join. First arrived, first join.

I've joined the group... I'll keep an eye out... ;)

I wish to get your basic characters and their names quickly, as I am developping the adventure and adapting it to your character. So far we have two dwarves, a Church Knight, an inquisitor, and a young noble. Who else?

Hi Turanil I've found running D&D PBEMs it's best to use a point buy or array system for character stats, otherwise you get some with multiple 18s and a huge disparity in power. For my own C&C PBEM rules I use a choice of arrays:

"Statistics

The average statistic is 10, but PCs are potential heroes and are above average. PCs use one of the three following statistic arrays, arranged as desired amongst the six statistics Strength Dexterity Constitution Intelligence Wisdom Charisma. Female characters have maximum Strength 16.

18 (+3) 16 (+2) 14 (+1) 12 (+0) 10 (+0) 8 (-1)

17 (+2) 16 (+2) 15 (+1) 12 (+0) 10 (+0) 9 (+0)

16 (+2) 15 (+1) 14 (+1) 14 (+1) 13 (+0) 10 (+0)"

Edit: Another possibility would be to say that PC net stat bonuses must add up to a certain number, eg +5 - both the PCs above have +5 net. Players may tend to min-max that though by having several 18s and a couple of dump stats.

BTW as you have plenty of players, instead of playing I'd also like to offer my services to perform any useful back-up functions you need like eg playing NPCs, development work & such - as you can tell I'm very keen to get experience of C&C and how it works in play. :)

Best wishes

-Simon

Okay with that. For the two who already have their characters, you can keep them as they are, or even redo them with these stats if you prefer. For the others, either these stats or stats that don't look better.

I would like to precise something: as a PBEM this will be free-form, meaning you cannot really have a good experience of the working of the game mechanics. Here is how the game will be played:

-- Combat: players tell me what they basically do, and give me some options such as: "if I lose more than half of my hit-points I retreat", or "if anyone seems to be badly wounded I go to his aid to cast a cure wounds spell". Then, I do all the dice throwings, and then recounts what happened. In some cases, I would allow for a few turns of postings for a combat to let the players participate more to it.

-- Skill checks: whenever a character wants to do something, the player tells me so, and I do the dicing then tell what happens. I take into consideration class abilities, not just d20 rolls. Example: there is a religious book, and players think there may be useful info in it. They tell me that their players read the book in order to find some clues. I do the rolls, but a cleric knows more about such things than others, so will know best where to look at and interpret. Even on a failed roll the cleric will get some limited info, but on a successful roll the cleric will find much more clues than other characters would. In any case, players don't need to roll dice, just to know what their characters are best at, then tell me what they do.
